LEWISBURG, Pa. – Colgate women's soccer saw
Corey Persson register her first goal of the season but two first half goals from host Bucknell ultimately sank the Raiders.
Colgate dropped the contest 2-1; making it the first time since 2010 the Raiders fell to the Bison.
The Raiders outshot Bucknell 17-16 and had a 10-8 edge on shots on goal but weren't able to find the equalizer.
After the Bison scored the game's opening goal 14:04 into the contest, Bucknell extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 33rd minute. Immediately after the break though Colgate turned up its offensive pressure recording eight corner kicks in the second half of play.
Despite some solid chances off those corners, including a driven header on goal by
Taryn Tomczyk, Colgate still trailed by two with 10 minutes to play.
Persson finally broke through for Colgate in the 81st minute after
Emily Pullen sent a beautiful corner kick into the box.
Catherine Williams collected the ball and tried her luck on frame. Her initial shot was saved by Bison goalie Jessica Ratner, but Persson was there to finish off the rebound, to cut the lead down to one.
In the closing minutes, Colgate posted three more corner kicks but unfortunately couldn't pull even.
Erin Cummings compiled six stops throughout the contest.
The Raiders have some time off before hosting Holy Cross in another Patriot League game on Saturday. That match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Beyer-Small '76 Field. Live stats and video will be available at the start.
