Colgate-RPI Tilt Ends in 3-3 Tie

Larson, Perry, Labbe With Raider Goals; Vandyk Has Career-High 29 Saves

HAMILTON – Despite a 3-1 lead going into the third period, the Colgate women's hockey team finished in a 3-3 tie with Rensselaer here Saturday afternoon.

Bailey Larson and Shelby Perry tallied the only two goals of the opening period to send the Raiders into the middle frame up 2-0.

RPI's Amanda Kimmerle cut that lead in half just five minutes into the second but Shae Labbe answered big for Colgate seven minutes after that to put her team back up by two at 3-1.

RPI wouldn't let up though and saw Katie Rooney score twice in the final period to push the game into overtime.

The Raiders had some great opportunities throughout the extra period but couldn't convert, ending the contest in a 3-3 tie.

Larson started the scoring just 3:27 into the match. The first-year crossed the puck over to Shannon Ormel, who fired a shot that rebounded off the pads of RPI's netminder Lovisa Selander. Larson picked up the rebound and placed it into the back of the net.

Perry made the score 2-0 in favor of the hosts, just 10 minutes later. Meghan Brennan started the attack by sliding the puck over to Perry. The sophomore then played the puck up the ice and rifled one past Selander. Nicole Gass earned the secondary assist.

The second frame saw a goal from each team. After the Engineers cut the lead in half five minutes into the period, Labbe intercepted an RPI pass, made a move on a defender and drilled a shot that went top shelf. 21611

RPI picked up its offense pressure and was able to get two goals in the final frame. Rooney recorded both of the Engineer goals.

Although Colgate had some great opportunities in overtime, it was ultimately unable to find the back of the net.

Julia Vandyk recorded a career-high 29 saves in her second career start between the pipes for Colgate.

The Raiders are back in action next weekend when they travel to Quinnipiac on Friday and Princeton on Saturday for two more ECAC Hockey contests. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Live stats will be available at the start of both contests.

There were ups and downs and we handled it well. Our penalty kill was really good late when it needed to be and we did a better job of getting to the net tonight." 21613

"Our group battled tonight, it was a gritty game and we made some plays. We were disappointed to not leave with two points. We want to finish games stronger moving forward, but we will continue to learn and we will continue to improve."
