HAMILTON – Colgate women's soccer dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Loyola here Saturday night.
The Greyhounds jumped out to the 3-0 edge after two quick goals in the opening 15 minutes and a late first-half tally at the 44:16 mark.
Colgate responded just 13 seconds later to stay in it. The Raiders scored off the reset when
Eliza Doll sent a beautiful ball into
Catherine Williams, who was streaking down the right wing. Williams collected the ball and sent a high cross into the box.
Emily Crichlow eyed it up and volleyed it into the upper left corner of the goal to cut into the Greyhounds' lead.
After the break, the Raiders continued to pressure the Loyola backline, outshooting the visitors 7-3 in the second half.
Then with the clock winding down, Colgate made it a one-goal game in the 85th minute following a header from
Jenna Panepinto. Off an
Emily Pullen corner kick late in the contest, Panepinto finished it off with a driven redirected header to the opposite corner of the net.
Colgate tried to find the equalizer in the remaining six minutes of play but Loyola buckled down its defensive efforts to deflect any final Raider chances on frame.
Loyola's goalie Colleen Folan finished with three saves in the contest, including a goal-saving stop with 13 minutes remaining in the first period on a free kick from Pullen.
The Raiders are back in action Saturday when Lafayette comes to town for Colgate's Senior Day and Family Weekend. That contest marks the regular season finale and is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Beyer-Small '76 Field. Live stats and video will be available at the start.
