Late Tally Lifts Raiders Past Army, 1-0

Williams Registers Game’s Lone Goal to Help Colgate

WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Colgate women's soccer earned three important Patriot League points on Wednesday after notching the game-winner over Army West Point in the 84th minute.

The Raiders then held on to win the road test, 1-0.

Senior Catherine Williams recorded the lone goal in the game, handing her number three on the season, which ties her for a team-best.

After nearly 84 scoreless minutes, Colgate found the eventual winner on a loose ball inside the 18-yard box. Eliza Doll sent a cross into the box that the Black Knights' tried to clear away from danger. Fortunately for the Raiders the clearance fell right at the foot of Williams, who blasted it off the crossbar and down over the goal line.21407

The Raiders then tightened up their defensive presence and denied any final Army attempts on net.

Colgate opened the game strong, forcing the Black Knights' goalie Jordan Cassalia to make an immediate save just three minutes in on a shot by Doll.

Late in the half the Raiders almost broke the deadlock off a corner kick when Emily Pullen sent a beautiful ball into the box. Colgate was eying it up but just missed getting a head on it from the back post.

Early in the second period, the Raiders again tried to break through on a shot from Sarah Coy, but Cassalia came up with the great save to keep the game scoreless.

As the clock was winding down, Colgate finally got one past the Army defense when Williams found the back of the net at the 83:58 mark.

Erin Cummings then made one final save on a shot from Candace Stewart in final two minutes of play to secure her team the victory. She finished with four on the night.21414
