Raiders Drop 3-1 Contest to Mids; Pullen Tallies First Goal of Career

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior Emily Pullen registered her first career goal on Saturday but it wasn't enough to spark as Colgate women's soccer victory.

The Raiders ultimately dropped the contest 3-1 to their hosts Navy, after a very evenly played game. The shots were slightly swayed in favor of the Raiders at 13-11 but the Mids held the edge on shots on goal at 7-3.

It was a tie match for much of the game as both teams tallied early first period goals. Unfortunately, a tally in the 73rd minute gave the Mids the eventual game-winner. Navy then added its last marker of the game at 82:01 on a deflected shot off a Colgate defender.

Ash Fairow put the Mids up in the 11th minute after she slotted a throughball into the near post.

Colgate would not waver however, as Pullen's tally knotted the score at 1-all. After Navy was called for a foul 20-yards out from goal, Pullen ripped a shot off a set piece that blew past the Mids' goalie.

The Raiders nearly broke the deadlock in the final minute of the opening period but back-to-back shots from Corey Persson and Taryn Tomczyk were blocked and then wide, respectively.

After the break, both teams had some quality chances but it was the Mids who finally found the back of the net. Colgate's goalie Erin Cummings made a brilliant save on a shot by Lizzy Rullan, but wasn't able to fall on the rebound fast enough as Kay Jo Gansrow finished off the rebound.

Colgate had an opportunity late in the half to equalize but Catherine Williams' driven shot was just saved by Navy's Dayton Wetherby.

The Mids added an insurance marker with eight minutes remaining in the game that ultimately secured the victory.

Cummings finished with four saves.

Colgate has a quick turnaround as they travel to Army on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Black Knights. Live stats and video are available at gametime.
