Raiders Win Third Straight With Sweep

A Balanced Offensive Attack led Colgate to a 3-0 Road Victory at Patriot League foe Lafayette Thursday

HAMILTON – Three players chipped in seven kills each to lead Colgate to a 3-0 sweep of Lafayette in Patriot League volleyball action Thursday night at the Kirby Sports Center.
 
Junior Kathleen Harris and newcomers Jaelah Hutchison and Katie Stansbury notched seven spikes apiece to highlight a potent Raider offense that finished the evening with a .303 attack percentage (36K-6E-99TA). Junior Katie Stebbins and rookie Amanda Smith complimented the trio, pitching in six spikes each.

- Colgate won its third straight contest to improve to 8-12 overall and 6-3 in Patriot League play.

Turning Point
After cruising to victories in the first two sets, Colgate faced its toughest test from Lafayette in the third frame.
- The two teams battled through four ties and a lead change in the early going before the Raiders were able to build a 14-9 lead midway through the frame.
- The Leopards responded with three straight points to pull within two, 14-12, before a kill by Harris stemmed the Lafayette run and sparked the Raiders to rattle off five straight points to build a 19-12 cushion.
- Colgate cruised the rest of the way, securing a 25-17 victory and the match.

- Colgate posted a team hitting percentage above .300 for the fourth time this season. The Raiders improved to 4-0 in those contests.
- Hutchison and Stansbury both posted hitting percentages above .400 for the contest. Hutchison finished with seven kills and just one error in 14 attempts (.429) while Stansbury tallied seven spikes in 17 swings without committing an error (.412).
- Smith (.333) and Stebbins (.312) both hit better than .300 for the match.
- Senior Jackie Macy dished out 14 assists and added 11 digs for her third double-double of the season.
- Macy was one of three Raiders to record double-digit digs as Harris pitched in 11 and junior Madision McAndrews added 10.
