Raiders Suffer Another Late Loss, This One 64-62 to Army on Bucket with Four Seconds Remaining

HAMILTON – Colgate played its second straight service academy to the wire and suffered its second straight two-point loss in the closing seconds.

From the Source
• Colgate head coach Nicci Hays Fort: (On tying the game at 62-62) "I didn't call timeout for a reason; you don't want to let Army set up a defense. We called a play and when that broke down, we just told them to attack the basket. And they did.
"Mariah made a great shot, so I was really proud of her."
(On the final Army possession) "We were going to switch everything and, obviously, we wanted to double Minato."
(On going the length of the court with four seconds left) "It's more (time) than you think. We've done some things in practice – some quick-hitting stuff in practice – and Mariah got a pretty good shot. Missy might have been open; I was kind of shielded.
"But we just wanted to get a screen for our shooter and maybe make something happen."
(On the game) "We've just got to get a little tougher. I told the team that we don't have to fix the last-second things. We have to fix getting down by nine or getting down by 16 – that's what we have to fix.
"These games shouldn't come down to last-second shots and a lot of them have. But it's been because we've had lulls of about three minutes where the other team has exploited us. We haven't gotten tougher, haven't gotten grittier, haven't gotten stops or gotten a good shot instead of forcing something. That's the difference right now."
"We've shown great fight, great grit. But we shouldn't have to do that if we get those stops in that two- or three-minute time frame.
(On the next two away from home) "It doesn't get easier. We've got two tough road games coming back to back. (Loyola) was a game we won at the buzzer last year, and they're going to be ready for us. They beat Navy, and we're going to have our hands full."
