After a scoreless opening two innings in game one, Albany took the 1-0 edge in the top of third. They tacked on four more runs in the fifth before Colgate cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning. Unfortunately, the Great Danes were able to notch four more runs in the final two innings to secure the victory.
In game two the Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the third and had
Brigit Ieuter pitch four perfect innings. But a rally in the seventh by the Great Danes earned them a come-from-behind win.
"Brigit (Ieuter) was spotting the ball really well today," Colgate head coach
Melissa Finley said. "She had a perfect game going into the fifth, which was really nice. We've talked a lot about getting the leadoff batter out and she was able to do that today. She gave us an opportunity to win and every time my pitchers step into the circle that's all I can ask of them.
"In terms of the game, a lot of us are trying to do it all ourseleves. We are trying to press and hit the ball over the fence, and while I like us hitting big sometimes we can definitely do a better job of stringing hits together, putting the ball on the ground and forcing them to make mistakes."
Colgate (10-27) saw
Katie Bushee go 2-for-6 on the day with a run and a walk. Sophomore
Anna Olson also chipped in two hits with a run in her five at bats.
Alex Wilson and
Alessandra Moore played only one game on the day but both recorded one hit in their three at bats. Four other Raider players registered hits against the Great Danes in
Haley Fleming,
Mariel Schlaefer,
Tara Grennan and
Alex Gadiano.
Albany (22-10) was led by Elizabeth Snow, who went 2-for-6 with two runs, one RBI and a walk. Vicky McFarland added two hits, two runs and two RBIs in her nine at bats, while Kelly Costello posted two hits, two RBIs and a walk during her seven plate appearances.

GAME ONEAfter a scoreless first two innings, the Great Danes recorded the game's first run in the top of the third to take the early 1-0 lead.
Albany increased its edge in the top of the fifth thanks to four runs, creating a five-run deficit between the teams.
The Raiders would not go away, however, as they cut into the Great Danes' advantage with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Olson sparked a small rally singling to right field. Albany was able to grab its second out of the inning before Bushee reached first courtesy of an error. Bushee and Olson both shifted up a base after a wild pitch to get the runners in scoring position. Fleming followed that up touching first thanks to an error, which allowed both Bushee and Olson to score.
The Great Danes quickly got those two runs back in the top of the sixth to push their lead back to five-runs. A two-run seventh for Albany then created a deficit that proved to be too much for the Raiders, as the Great Danes held on for the win.
Megan Carnase pitched a complete game going seven innings, allowing eight hits and nine runs. Brittany MacFawn earned the win for Albany after giving up five hits and two runs in her seven innings of work.
GAME TWOSophomore pitcher
Brigit Ieuter had a perfect game going through the opening four innings after shutting the Great Danes down in order.
Colgate gave her a little breathing room in the bottom of the third as well with three runs to take the 3-0 advantage. Gadiano started the inning doubling to right field. Bushee moved her 60 feet after a sacrifice bunt before a Fleming single scored her. The Great Danes recorded their first out of the inning but a triple from Schlaefer brought home another Raider run. Ornousky then reached base thanks to an error, allowing Schlaefer to touch home.
Ieuter lost her perfect game after a leadoff double from the Great Danes in the top of the fifth. A groundout shifted the baserunner to third before a single brought her home to make it a 3-1 Raider lead.
A single to start the seventh for Albany sparked a Great Danes rally, which featured four big runs, lifting them to a 5-3 advantage.
Despite a one-out single from Grennan, the Raiders were unable to answer and eventually fell.
Colgate is back on Eaton Street Field this weekend when it hosts Bucknell for its final home series of the year. Saturday's doubleheader with the Bison is alumni day, while Sunday's finale will be senior day. Both games are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
