HAMILTON – Senior Haley Fleming recorded her first season home run on Sunday afternoon but it couldn't spark a Colgate victory as the Raiders dropped a 7-2 decision to Boston University.

After four and a half innings the game was scoreless until Fleming's two-run shot gave the Raiders a 2-0 edge. Unfortunately, the Terriers answered by scoring all their runs in the final two innings to steal the come from behind victory.

"We talk a lot about getting off to a good start, and we have been successful in the past when we score first and wanting to take control of the game," Colgate head coach Melissa Finley said. "We played good softball for our first game of the series and for five innings today; unfortunately, we play seven innings. That late-inning battle wasn't there but we gave ourselves an opportunity to win."

Colgate (9-24, 2-10 PL) was led by Fleming, who went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs on the day. Rookie Katie Bushee had another solid outing for Colgate posting two hits, one run and a walk during her three at bats. Three other Raider players recorded hits in the game with Jennifer Martin, Eileen Ornousky and Alex Wilson getting on the scorecard.

Boston U. (23-18, 8-4 PL) saw Brittany Younan go 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jayme Mask also added two hits and two runs during her four at bats, while Lauren Hynes went 3-for-3 on the day.

After a scoreless first four and a half innings, Colgate's Brigit Ieuter had allowed just three hits during her time in the circle.

In the bottom of the fifth Fleming's two-run homer to left center with two outs made it a 2-0 Raider advantage. Her long ball scored Bushee, who had earned a walk in the previous at bat.

But the Terriers wasted little time trailing in the game as they took over the lead at 3-2 in the top of the sixth.

BU increased its advantage to 7-2 following a four-run seventh inning and, despite allowing Colgate to get runners on the corners in the bottom half, held on to secure the five-run victory.

Ieuter went 6.1 innings in the circle allowing 10 hits and six runs. Megan Carnase came in for relief, giving up just a hit and a run during 0.2 innings of work. Hynes started the game for BU, allowing three hits in two innings in the circle before Melanie Russell came in for relief finishing the game giving up four hits and two runs for the win.

The Raiders are back on the field Tuesday for a doubleheader with Albany at 3 p.m. on Eaton Street Field.
