ORLANDO, Fla. – Colgate dropped an 11-1 decision to Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon in its UCF Spring Fling Tournament finale.

Colgate (1-9) saw
Tera Vaughn go 2-for-2 with a walk to lead the Raiders.
Katie Bushee,
Marisa Dowling,
Mariel Schlaefer, and
Tara Grennan also all added hits in the loss.

Vaughn recorded her 150th career hit in the game as well.

Penn (1-4) received a top hitting performance from Sydney Turchin, who went 4-for-5 in the game with a run and an RBI. Korinne Raby added two hits, one run, and two RBI during her five at bats, while Leah Allen posted two hits, two runs, and two RBI in her four bat appearances.

With one out in the top of the first the Quakers earned a walk to get a runner on board. A groundout shifted Penn's base runner into scoring position before a single on the ensuing play scored the game's first run. Another single for the Quakers down the left field line made it a 2-0 Penn advantage.

In the next inning Penn homered to left field increasing its lead to 3-0. On the following at bat, Kristen Johnson reached on an error before Sydney Kranzmann advanced her to second with a sacrifice bunt. With a runner on second and one out, Sydney Turchin singled up the middle to place runners on the corners. On the ensuring play, Elysse Gorney doubled to center field, scoring Johnson, to create a four-run margin between the teams.

Colgate received a walk and back-to-back singles from Martin, Vaughn and Schlaefer, respectively, to load the bases in the bottom of the inning but was unable to convert on the opportunity.

The Raiders again found themselves with the bases loaded in the third inning with just one out but Penn managed to escape the inning not conceding any runs.

Colgate tallied a run in the fourth inning after rookie
Katie Bushee singled down the left field line. Fellow classmate
Tara Grennan started the inning doubling to left center and then with two outs, Bushee broke through with her single to score Grennan from second.

Despite chances from the Raiders in the remaining innings, Penn registered a big sixth inning to ultimately secure the victory.

The Raiders are back in action Friday at the George Mason Tournament when they take on Binghamton at 12:15.
