Butler Career-High 19 at St. Bona

Terrific First Half Not Enough as Bonnies Defeat Raiders, 65-49; Stockill Scores 15, Adds Four Blocked Shots

OLEAN, N.Y. – Randyll Butler scored a career-high 19 points and missed a double-double by one rebound, but St. Bonaventure figured Colgate out in the second half to post a 65-49 victory.

The Raiders turned in their best half of basketball this season, closing with a 10-3 run to pull even by intermission at 30-30. But the host Bonnies jacked up the defensive pressure in the second half and finally got their offense going to pull away over the final eight minutes.

Butler added nine rebounds to miss her third career double-double by one carom. Her point-total easily topped the 13 she scored in last year's overtime win at Loyola, when Butler banked home the winning basket at the buzzer.

Josie Stockill added a season-high 15 points, including 12 in the first half on 6-of-8 shooting. She was whistled for all four of her fouls in the second half and was limited to just three made free throws.

Paige Kriftcher added eight second-half points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Missy Repoli scored three points, Mariah Jones two and Carole Harris two to go with seven rebounds.

St. Bonaventure was led by Nyla Rueter's 19 points and Gabby Richmond's nine boards.

Colgate is back in Cotterell Court for just the second time this season Saturday against Albany. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

Facts & Figures
• Colgate closed the first half on a 10-3 run to pull even at 30-all heading into the locker room.
• It was the first time this season Colgate did not trail at halftime.
Josie Stockill scored Colgate's final six points of the first half to give her a game-leading 12 at that point. She finished with a season-high 15 points to go with five rebounds and four blocked shots.
Randyll Butler's career-high 19 points came on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Butler also made five of her six free-throw attempts and grabbed nine rebounds for the second game in a row.
• Butler, Stockill and Mariah Jones all had two of Colgate's nine steals. That's three better than the team average of 6.0 coming in.
• Colgate shot 36.5 percent (19-of-52) for the game, but the Raiders made only five of 20 attempts in the second half and scored 19 points. St. Bonaventure shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the floor for the game and the Bonnies scored 35 second-half points.
• St. Bonaventure had the edge in 3-point shooting, making eight of 15 treys to Colgate's three of 14. Paige Kriftcher was 2-of-3 for the Raiders and Missy Repoli 1-of-4.
• Sophomores Steph Poland and Katie Curtis contributed career-high minutes, with 13 and nine respectively.

Turning Point
• A pair of Kriftcher threes about a minute apart tied the score for the fourth time at 36-36 with 16:56 to play.
• Colgate then went scoreless the next 7 minutes and 20 seconds, but the Raiders appeared to have weathered that drought when Butler hit a jumper with 9:36 showing that pulled them within 43-38.
• Soon after, St. Bonaventure had its best offensive spurt of the game. The Bonnies turned a 43-40 advantage at the under-8 media timeout into a 15-3 run that made it 58-43 by the under-4 break.
• Colgate drew no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

From the Sources
• Colgate head coach Nicci Hays Fort: (On compensating for St. Bonaventure's defensive plan) "Randyll and Josie really did a good job of attacking the rim in the first half. St. Bonaventure did a great job on Carole, and Josie and Randyll stepped up."
(On the first-half performance) "That's what we expect. We competed like that against Rutgers for 35 minutes, so we just expected to complete like that a little bit longer tonight."
• Colgate guard Randyll Butler: (On her scoring success) "Coach wanted us to attack and be aggressive. We had to come out with a lot of energy. I was just trying my hardest to get to the rim and create shots.
(On her nine rebounds) "We knew St. Bonaventure was a great rebounding team, so we had to get after it. That was one of our goals, to try and out-rebound them and be aggressive."
(On the team's play) "We're just trying to get one under our belts, so we're trying to play as hard as we can."
