Raiders Rebound To Defeat Crusaders

Colgate Rallied From an 0-2 Deficit to Defeat Holy Cross, 3-2, in Patriot League Volleyball Action Saturday

HAMILTON – Colgate rallied from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Holy Cross, 3-2 (21-25, 25-27, 26-24, 25-15, 15-7), in Patriot League Volleyball action Saturday at Cotterell Court.in Patriot League volleyball action Saturday at Cotterell Court.
 
Junior Katie Fauntleroy recorded a team-high 14 kills and junior Brooke Shupryt-Knoop and sophomore Katie Stebbins recorded 12 kills apiece to give the Raiders three players in double figures.  Junior Jackie Macy and sophomore Madison McAndrews both posted double-doubles as Macy finished with 22 assists and 19 digs and McAndrews tallied 12 assists and 32 digs.
 
Mandy Sifferlen recorded a match-high 18 kills and Natalie Welsch pitched in 15 for Holy Cross. Emily Oliver joined the duo in double figures with 11. Hannah Grace Stokes posted a double-double with a match-best 47 assists and 19 digs while Emily Popp notched a match-high 36 digs.

Won-Lost Records
Colgate improved to 8-4 in league play and 14-8 overall as it won for the sixth time in the last seven matches.
Holy Cross dipped to 5-7 in Patriot League action and 6-17 on the season as it suffered its third straight setback.
 
How It Happened
- Holy Cross captured the first two sets of the match, winning the opener by a 25-21 margin before out-lasting Colgate for a 27-25 victory in the second frame.
- Colgate began its comeback with a 26-24 triumph in a tight third set that featured a total of nine ties and three lead changes.  With the score tied at 24-all, a kill by Fauntleroy and a Crusaders ball-handling error gave the Raiders the two-point victory.
- Colgate never trailed in the fourth set, scoring the first five points of the frame before using an 8-1 spurt to stretch a 9-7 lead into a 17-8 advantage midway through the frame. Holy Cross pulled within in six, 18-12, moments later, but a 7-3 spurt closed out the set and gave the Raiders a 25-15 and evened the match at 2-2.
- Tied at 4-all in the fifth set, Colgate ran off three unanswered points to spark an 11-3 run that closed out the set and gave the Raiders a 15-7 decision and the match.
 
Inside The Box Score
- The match featured a total of 21 ties and eight lead changes. The third set was the most closely contested as it featured nine ties and three lead changes.
 - Holy Cross opened the match with a combined hitting percentage of .260 (23-9-88), but were limited to a .083 attack clip (9-17-108) over the final three frames.
- Colgate was held to a .129 (18-20-139) hitting percentage for the first three frames, but turned in a .327 attack clip (18-5-55) during the fourth and fifth sets.

-  The Raiders were 9-2 at home last season and 9-4 in Hamilton during the 2012 campaign.
