Home Finale For Two Raider Players

Colgate Drops 3-1 Decision on Senior Day; Rizzo Nets Raiders’ Lone Goal

HAMILTON – Two Colgate men's soccer players said farewell to Beyer-Small '76 Field Saturday afternoon on senior day.

Seniors Tanner Schilling and Chris Campbell have posted an overall record of 26-35-16 and a Patriot League mark of 12-11-7 thus far in their four years. These two men have also helped Colgate reach three Patriot League Tournaments from 2011-2013, while making significant contributions to Raider Soccer in capturing the 2011 Patriot League Tournament Title and an appearance in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

The Raiders, unfortunately, fell in Saturday's game 3-1 to Lehigh but did see junior Nick Rizzo net his first goal of the season.

Rizzo's marker in the 75th minute came after Ethan Kutler chipped him the ball over the Mountain Hawks defensive line. He collected the pass on his chest and volleyed it into the left corner of the net.

Colgate outshot the Mountain Hawks as well, 9-4, but was unable to close the two-goal deficit.

The Raiders are back in action Saturday at American for their regular season finale. The game is set for a noon start.

From the Sources
Colgate head coach Erik Ronning : (On the game) "Even after being three goals down, our guys never gave in. That's something that at the end of the game we can walk off the field, despite the score and be proud of. I'm extremely proud at the fact that no one ever gave in and they all still believed by pushing for goals."

"Tonight wasn't a soccer thing or a tactical thing. We have to bring that sort of urgency every game. Championship teams bring that urgency the full 90 minutes. It's something we have to learn to do. We have a lot of really talented players and sometimes when you have that youth it's hard to maintain a certain level throughout the course of a game and season."
