NEW HAVEN, Conn. –  The Colgate women's volleyball team played in its second game of the Yale Invitational and fell by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) decision to the host Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders (4-1) were led by rookie Kathleen Harris, who had 11 kills, while Diane Seely had eight strikes. Kaylee Fifer added 27 assists and Caitlin Cremin had 14 digs.

"You never like losing, but we can learn a lot about ourselves from this match," head coach Ryan Baker said. "Kenzie Hume and Mari Faines had a strong showing and I am happy to have this kind of depth."

Yale (1-1) had an all-around team effort on its attacks as four players finished with eight or more kills. Jesse Ebner and Mollie Rogers had nine strikes and McHaney Carter and Kelly Johnson added eight kills. Kendall Polan recorded 27 assists and Maddie Rudnick tallied 15 digs.

The Bulldogs came out ready to play in the first set and jumped out to an 11-3 lead thanks to a 9-1 run over a 10-point span. The Raiders responded with eight points out of nine to cut the Yale lead down to 23-18, but the Bulldogs closed out the set to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-20 win. The Bulldogs hit over 27 percent in the first set to earn the win, while Colgate couldn't get out of an early hole.

Colgate tried to shift the momentum early in the second set with a quick 9-4 lead. Lindsay Young and Seely added a strike apiece. The Bulldogs, however, used a late 9-1 advantage to go up 20-15. The Raiders tried to inch back into the match and got to within three at 23-20 after a couple of Yale errors. The Bulldogs then closed out the set with two quick points and won again, 25-20, to take a 2-0 lead.

Yale kept the pressure on in the third set and built a 14-7 advantage with a 7-2 run. Colgate couldn't recover from the run and the lead got up to 19-11 with Yale's Kelly Johnson adding back-to-back kills. Colgate chipped away and got to within five at 20-15 with Seely and Faines adding strikes. Yale, however, settled back down and earned the 25-19 win to get the sweep.

The Raiders are back on the court at 5 p.m. as they take on Missouri in their final match of the Yale Invitational.
