Volleyball Closes Out Yale Invitational

Raiders Faced Missouri in the Final Match for Both Teams

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colgate women's volleyball team took on SEC foe Missouri in its final match of the Yale Invitational and the Tigers came out with the 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-14) win on Saturday evening.

Colgate (4-2) was led by Kathleen Harris, who recorded nine kills and hit 25 percent. Kaylee Fifer had 14 helpers in the loss and Caitlin Cremin added 13 digs.

Missouri (8-0) won all of its matches at the Yale Invitational and saw Lisa Henning dominate the front of the net with 17 kills. Molly Kreklow fed her attackers 42 times and Carly Kan had a match-high 16 digs.

Missouri made its presence felt right from the first serve as the Tigers got out to an 8-0 advantage. Colgate chipped away and got back to within two points at 12-10 with kills from Kate Reilly and Harris. Missouri fought right back and never gave up the lead, increasing the score to 20-14 on a kill from Emily Watson. She struck again late in the set and Loxley Keala had a service ace to close out the first set at 25-16.

The second set was back-and-forth and was tied 10-10 after the first 20 points. Lindsay Young was able to give the Raiders their largest lead at 7-5 with a kill, but Missouri regained the advantage at 13-11 with back-to-back kills from Henning and then the Tigers went on a short 6-2 run and made it 19-13. The Raiders charged back and got to within three at 21-18 thanks to a pair of strikes from Harris, but Missouri earned the 25-18 win and took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

In the final set, the teams had almost a copy of the second set early on as the score was 11-9 after 20 points with Katie Stebbins leading the way for Colgate with a pair of kills. With the score 12-11 Tigers, Missouri broke open the game with six-straight points to build an 18-11 advantage and the Tigers were able to finish off the match with a 25-14 win.

The Raiders are back on the court next weekend with a visit to LIU-Brooklyn for the Blackbird Invitational.
