FINAL RESULTS
GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. – Colgate took home third place overall with a team score of 107 when the Raiders traveled to the Buffalo area to compete in the UB Stampede on Saturday.
"I'm happy with several performances today," assistant coach Luke Burdick said. "It was great to see Cody Hawkins up there as our No. 2 man. Cody was a walk-on last year and struggled, but worked hard over the summer and is running above and beyond expectations. It's exciting to witness his progress. He's a testament to what hard work and dedication can do for you in this sport.
"At this point in the season, all of the guys are pretty fatigued due to the training volume being so high. So it is good to see the guys out there working hard through this tough phase of training. It's always rewarding when all the pieces come together as we approach the end of the season and gear up for the last two important meets of the season, the Patriot League Championship and the IC4A Championship."
The athletes faced tough competition in Buffalo and Binghamton, as well as having to compete in rainy and wet running conditions.
Junior Ben Aldrich had another top performance for the Raiders when he placed 14th with a time of 26 minutes and 1 second, which helped the team finish ahead of Niagara and Grove City. Cody Hawkins was the next Colgate finisher with a time of 27:26 for 21st place.
Chris Noda, Everett Stilley, and James Paris finished in the 23rd, 24th, and 25th slots with times of 27:31, 27:35 and 27:36, respectively. Rookie Bennett Levis crossed in 28th (27:49) followed by senior Greg Englehart in 30th (27:56).
"In spite of the adverse conditions, the team showed some aggressiveness and ran as a very tight pack," Burdick added, referencing the top five runners having a spread of only 35 seconds.
The team will now train hard for the next couple of weeks in preparation for the Paul Short Invitational on Oct. 5 at 12:15 p.m.
