Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Colgate volleyball team only had an hour between its big upset over NC State and another tough matchup with Wisconsin and the Raiders dropped a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-13) decision in its final match of the Midtown Invitational.

Colgate (7-5) had a tough time with the Badgers with Lindsay Young and Kate Reilly leading the way with six kills apiece. Caitlin Cremin finished with 13 digs and Kaylee Fifer had 18 assists.

Wisconsin (11-1) proved to be the best team at the tournament with Dominique Thompson and Ellen Chapman leading the way with 13 kills each, while Taylor Morey had 20 digs. The Badgers played great defense with five players earning double digits in digs.

Colgate had its best set in the opening game and hung with Wisconsin and had a 20-19 lead after two kills from Reilly and one from Young during a run of four-straight points. The Badgers responded and scored six of the next seven points to earn the 25-21 win.

The momentum for Wisconsin continued into the next set and jumped out to 19-9 advantage.  The Raiders tried to cut into the lead, but the Badgers were too much and ended up taking a 2-0 advantage in the match. The third set was more Wisconsin as the Badgers built an early lead. They closed out the set with an 8-0 run to earn the sweep with a 25-13 win.

"Wisconsin is a great team and we did a great job early on," head coach Ryan Baker said. "There are a lot of positives from this weekend as we prepare for our Patriot League schedule."

The Patriot League season begins next weekend as Colgate defends its title against Army and Holy Cross.
