Final Results

STANFORD, Calif. – Seniors Chris Johnson and Timothy Phelps traveled to California to compete at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, with Johnson coming away with an NCAA East Regional qualifying time.

Johnson was entered in the 10K and placed in the second section. He finished 12th out of 44 runners. Johnson's time of 29:37.80 is a new personal best by 27 seconds and is one of two Colgate athletes to have broken the 30-minute barrier. His time ranks him first in the Patriot League this year and 16th in the East.

With his time, he also earned himself the opportunity to compete at the NCAA East Regional Championship in Greensboro, S.C. on May 24th.  The top 12 competitors in that race will qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Eugene, Ore. on June 6-8.

The goal for both runners was to run a time to qualify among the top 48 athletes from all Division I colleges East of the Mississippi and earn the opportunity to compete at the NCAA East Regional Championships.

Phelps competed first on the day, running in the 5K. He faced a race that started slowly with the first half mile slower than a 4:40 mile pace. That changed after the halfway point as the pace quickened to a 4:30 mile pace. Tim competed well, finishing in a personal best time of 14:55.11. A 15-second improvement, moving him into fifth on the Colgate 5K outdoor records chart.

The Raiders return to action April 13, when the entire team travels to Army for a meet. The invitational is scheduled to begin at noon.
