Donnelly '12 Continues Bike Ride

Former Raiders Lacrosse Team Member Riding Cross Country to Raise Tick-Borne Awareness

Members of the Colgate men's lacrosse team joined former Raider John Donnally '12 for his bike ride through Central New York.
HAMILTON -- Former Colgate lacrosse defensive middle John Donnally '12 remains focused on Bite Back for a Cure, a national campaign by the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance to raise awareness for Lyme and tick-borne diseases.

Donnally himself, now 24, suffers from Lyme Disease. He has fought the disease since he was 9 and embarked earlier this year on a cycling journey that is taking him from San Francisco to New York City. Donnally is attempting to raise $50,000 to improve and change Lyme disease diagnosis and testing. Members of the current Colgate lacrosse team joined Donnally for a portion of his ride recently to help raise money and awareness in Central New York.

"This is a wonderful example of our graduates doing great things and trying to work for something bigger than themselves," said Mike Murphy, who was Donnally's coach during his senior Raiders season of 2012. "John Donnally was an unbelievable player and unbelievable in terms of his character, toughness and team-first attitude. He wasn't an All-League guy, though he should have been.

"John was the guts of our 2012 team and we missed him during the 2013 season."

Donnally is scheduled to cross the George Washington Bridge into New York City during Thanksgiving.

GoColgateRaiders.com had an story this summer on Donnally's campaign, and InsideLacrosse.com also is maintaining updates. That blog post, along with the accompanying photos and video, can be found HERE.
