Raiders Advance to Title Match

Fifer's Double-Double Leads Raiders in Sweep of Army

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Colgate volleyball team will play in the Patriot League Championships tomorrow at 2 p.m. after a 3-0 sweep of Army on Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders (22-8) were led by Kathleen Harris as she had 13 kills and hit 33 percent. Diane Seely chipped in with nine strikes and Kaylee Fifer had a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs.

"We were very focused from the start," head coach Ryan Baker said. "Army is a really strong defensive team, who makes you earn everything. This was a total team effort. We are excited about playing in the championship match and it should be a good one."

Army (14-13) finishes its season with the loss. The Black Knights got seven kills apiece from Marguax Jarka and Olivia Fairfield. Vanessa Edwards added 26 assists and Jarka had a double-double with 13 digs.

The Raiders came ready to play in the second semifinal at American. Colgate dominated Army in the opening set and won 25-11. The Raiders hit 34 percent and held the Black Knights to a .000 hitting percentage. Colgate got out to a 14-7 lead with three kills from Kathleen Harris and pair of strikes from Diane Seely and Lindsay Young. Army never recovered and the Raiders scored 11 of the final 15 points to earn the win.

The momentum stayed on Colgate's side in the second set and the Raiders went up 11-7 with Harris, Seely and Young leading the way again. Kenzie Hume and Kaylee Fifer added kills as well. The Black Knights fired back with four straight points and tied the set at 11-11. The Raiders bent but did not break in the set and stayed on top and opened up a 21-18 adavantage after a Jackie Macy service ace. Colgate closed out the set with a Seely strike and a bad set from Army. The Raiders went on top 2-0 in the match with the 25-20 win.

The third set was the most competitive set as the teams traded points through the first 10 points and the teams were tied at 5-5. Colgate earned multiple leads, but the Black Knights wouldn't go away and evened the set at 21-21. However, the Raiders stormed ahead and completed the set with a 4-1 run and advanced to the Patriot League Championship match.

The Raiders are in action against top-seeded American on its home court tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Bender Arena. The match can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.
