Stephanie Brown is a senior captain on the women's tennis team. This is her second season serving as a team captain and she is playing No. 1 doubles and in the third spot in singles matches. Brown is a Mathematics major from Mendham, N.J.
Describe your athletic career in one word.
Fortunate
What have you learned from playing tennis at Colgate?
I've learned valuable skills like time management, leadership, and teamwork.
What's the best part of being a student-athlete?
The large collection of greys that I now have.
What are your goals for the rest of the season?
In my four years we have never made it to the finals of the Patriot League Tournament, so I want to do that this year.
Who would play you in a movie about your life?
Meryl Streep. Even though we look nothing alike, she is from the town next to me and would know how to play a Jersey girl.
How has playing tennis impacted your four years here?
I've learned a lot and had some great teammates along the way that have given me some of my best Colgate memories.
What's your favorite memory from tennis at Colgate?
Beating Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament last year. We had lost our regular season match to them and this one was really close and came down to a third set on the last court, so it was an incredible team win.
What is one food that you would never be able to live without?
Pasta
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen athletes?
It's a lot more time consuming than you realize to be an athlete at Colgate, so be prepared.
What would you like the rest of the student body to know about being a student-athlete?
It really does make a difference to the athletes and we really appreciate it when the school comes out to support athletic events.
If you weren't playing tennis, what sport would you be playing?
Softball, since I played in high school.
