Men's Basketball Hosts American on Saturday

The Colgate University men's basketball team will resume Patriot League play when it hosts American on Saturday, Feb. 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.

THE SERIES WITH AMERICAN
This will be the 27th meeting between Colgate and American with the Eagles leading the all-time series 22-4. American won the first matchup this season 82-54 at Bender Arena and has won the last four meetings. Colgate's last win over American came during the 2009-10 season 75-74 in double overtime.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Mike Venezia collected a team-high 15 points and five rebounds as the Colgate men's basketball team completed its non-conference schedule with a 76-73 win over NJIT Wednesday night at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center. The win also snapped an 11-game road losing streak for the Raiders.

Colgate (7-15) held an 11-point lead 68-57 with just over five minutes remaining, before the Highlanders went on a 14-4 run to trim the lead to 72-71 with 2:50 left. Senior Yaw Gyawu then made a layup and added a free throw with six seconds remaining, before Isaiah Wilkerson missed a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Raiders the win.

Venezia, who scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half, finished the game shooting 5-of-7 from the floor including a perfect 4-of-4 from downtown to lead the Raiders. Senior Nick Pascale and sophomore Pat Moore also reached double-figures with 14 points apiece, while senior Sterling Melville pitched in nine. Junior guard Mitch Rolls led the team with a game-high five assists, while Melville dished out three helpers.

SCOUTING AMERICAN (14-8, 5-2 PL)
The American University men's basketball team withstood a Lafayette rally in the second half to remain in second place of the Patriot League standings with a 69-61 victory on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Charles Hinkle led all scorers with 23 points and added five boards while Tony Wroblicky recorded a career-high 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. Wroblicky also added three offensive rebounds for the Eagles. Daniel Munoz posted a team-high six boards and five assists.

American shot 52.2 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. Lafayette was held to 44.2 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from three-point range in the game as leading scorer Willen was held to 11 points.

VENEZIA HONING IN ON 1,000 POINTS
Colgate senior Mike Venezia is just 32 points (968) away from becoming the 29th Raider to join the 1,000-point club. Venezia has scored in double-figures in eight of the last 11 games and is averaging 11.6 points per game during that time.

500-500-100 CLUB
Colgate senior Nick Pascale is closing in on becoming just the fifth Raider in school history to score 500 or more points, grab 500 or more rebounds and block 100 or more shots in a career. Pascale currently has 561 points, 516 rebounds and 97 blocked shots.

ROLLS SHARING THE ROCK
Colgate junior guard Mitch Rolls recently entered the top-10 all-time at Colgate with 261 assists. Rolls has distributed 55 helpers this season and is averaging 2.5 per game, which ranks 12th in the Patriot League. Rolls currently ranks sixth all-time, just 11 helpers behind Josh Farrell '87 (272) for fifth. Hassan Brown '94 holds the school record with 484 assists.

1,000 POINTS AND COUNTING
Last season, senior forward Yaw Gyawu became the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club. Gyawu currently has 1,187 points which ranks 19th, only five points from passing Rick Caputo '69 (1,191) for 18th overall.

VENEZIA KEEPS RAINING THREES
Colgate senior Mike Venezia has made a total of 184 three-pointers in his career that is fifth all-time at Colgate. Jon Simon '07 ranks fourth with 185 made three-pointers, while former teammate Kyle Roemer '10 holds the school record with 267.

Colgate will continue Patriot League play when it hosts Bucknell on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.
