Men's Hoops Visits Lafayette on Wednesday

The Colgate University men's basketball team will look to capture is fourth road win of the season when it visits Lafayette on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Kirby Sports Center and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.

THE SERIES WITH LAFAYETTE
This will be the 90th meeting between Colgate and Lafayette with the Raiders leading the all-time series 46-43. Lafayette won the first match-up this season 82-76 in Hamilton and swept the series last year. The Raiders last win came during the 2009-10 season 74-73 in Easton, Pa.

LAST TIME OUT
Junior guard Mitch Rolls drained a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining to lift the Colgate men's basketball team past Navy 59-57 Saturday night at Alumni Hall.

Colgate (8-19, 2-10) led 56-51 with 44 seconds left in regulation, but Isaiah Roberts responded with five points, including a layup with eight seconds remaining to put the Mids up 57-56, before Rolls ended the scoring with his second three-pointer of the game.

Rolls finished the game with 13 points, three assists and two rebounds to lead the Raiders. While senior guard Mike Venezia became the 29th Raider to score 1,000-points, with 11. Senior Forward Sterling Melville finished with seven points and three assists, while Brandon James had seven points and five rebounds.

Colgate shot 58.6 percent from the field, including 60 percent from behind the arc, while holding Navy to 39 percent overall and 33.3 percent from downtown. The Raiders also won the battle on the boards 25-22, but committed 17 turnovers that resulted in 13 points.

SCOUTING LAFAYETTE (11-16, 6-6 PL)
A Lehigh opened the game on a 7-2 run and controlled the game throughout, claiming a 72-53 victory on Saturday at Stabler Arena. C.J. McCollum netted a game-high 22 points for the home team.

Ryan Willen scored 16 to lead Lafayette (11-16, 6-6), which had two players score in double figures. Tony Johnson added 12 for the Leopards, who were out rebounded 44-29.

VENEZIA SCORES 1,000 POINTS
Colgate senior Mike Venezia recently became the 29th Raider to join the 1,000-point club with 1,004. Venezia has scored in double-figures 14 times this season.

ROLLS SHARING THE ROCK
Colgate junior guard Mitch Rolls recently entered the top-10 all-time at Colgate with 270 assists. Rolls has distributed 64 helpers this season and is averaging 2.4 per game, which ranks 12th in the Patriot League. Rolls currently ranks sixth all-time, just two helpers behind Josh Farrell '87 (272) for fifth. Hassan Brown '94 holds the school record with 484 assists.

1,000 POINTS AND COUNTING
Last season, senior forward Yaw Gyawu became the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club. Gyawu currently has 1,210 points which ranks 17th all-time.

VENEZIA KEEPS RAINING THREES
Colgate senior Mike Venezia has made a total of 191 three-pointers in his career, which is fourth all-time at Colgate. Former teammate Kyle Roemer '10 holds the school record with 267.

LANGEL INDUCTED INTO SOUTH JERSEY HALL OF FAME
Colgate University men's basketball head coach Matt Langel was recently inducted into the Al Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey's Hall of Fame on Sunday, Feb. 12. The club's 30th annual induction ceremonies were held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Langel, the 20th head coach at Colgate, was an outstanding player at Moorestown High School, where he was a three-year starter for the Quakers and one of the top players in South Jersey during his playing days. The 1996 graduate was named to the Courier-Post All-South Jersey team and finished his career with 1,497 points, the second highest total in Moorestown history.

UP NEXT
Colgate will host its regular season finale against Holy Cross on Saturday, Feb. 25. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Sports.
