Ashlynne Rando earned another start in net for the Raiders and grabbed 27 saves in the 3-0 loss to Yale Friday night at Starr Rink.
Colgate (2-5) saw five shots from
Jocelyn Simpson and
Brittany Phillips.
Miriam Drubel and senior captain
Jenna Klynstra also notched three shots on net.
"Yale played very well from start to finish," head coach
Greg Fargo said. "We had some good chances but needed to capitalize on our opportunities to have a chance."
Yale (1-2) was led by Janelle Ferrara, Alyssa Zupon and Jamie Haddad who all netted a goal in the game. Jaimie Leonoff made 31 saves.
Throughout the first period the Bulldogs had the slight edge on shots grabbing 12 to Colgate's 10, yet the Raiders had the better of the shot opportunities. Yale notched the first goal in the game with less than 30 seconds left in the period. Zupon tipped the puck past Rando on a cross from Hanna Astrom who was in the right wing corner. Kate Martini was given an assist on the play.
Colgate outshot Yale in the second period but couldn't manage to grab the equalizing goal. The Raiders had some great opportunities at net from shots by Simpson, Phillips and Klynstra however Leonoff made 14 saves for the Bulldogs to keep the shutout alive.
Late into the period the Bulldogs grabbed another goal this time on a five-on-three power play. With a scramble in front of the net, Haddad was able to find the puck and put it away for the 2-0 lead. Assists on the goal went to Martini for her second of the game and Tara Tomimoto.
Taylor Volpe had a chance in the third period to score a goal on a breakaway opportunity. At the last second Leonoff pushed the shot a way for the save with 17 minutes to play. Phillips then earned a chance at goal from a shot on the left side faceoff circle. The puck was deflected away by Leonoff to Simpson who couldn't put away the rebound.
With one minute left to play in the game, Yale scored their final goal after the Raiders had pulled the goalie. Ferrara scored the empty net goal with the assists going to Danielle Moncion and Martini.
Colgate will be back on the ice tomorrow as they face ECAC Hockey rivals Brown at 3 p.m. in Starr Rink.
