HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/9/12) – The Colgate women's hockey team will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for its second matchup of the season against ECAC Hockey opponent No. 3/3 Cornell on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.

LEAGUE PLAY
Colgate (8-11-1, 3-5-1 ECAC Hockey) is currently sitting in ninth place in the ECAC Hockey standings above Rensselaer, Union and Yale. The team has seven points from three wins over Yale, Princeton and Union, and a 1-1 overtime tie with Brown for a 3-5-1 league mark. On top of the standings is Quinnipiac with 20 points from a 9-3-2 conference record.
POINT LEADERS
Brittany Phillips continues to lead the team with 23 points from 10 goals and 13 assists. She also has four power play goals and one game-winning tally. Phillips is followed by
Melissa Kueber and sophomore
Jocelyn Simpson who both have 15 points each. Kueber has 10 goals and five assists while Simpson has six goals and nine helpers.
MAKING A MARK IN PROGRAM HISTORY

Taylor Volpe are making their mark in program history. Sass, who is currently second in the league with 506 saves this season, is ranked second in program history with 2,132 career saves, is tied for second in career wins with 32, is fourth in career shut outs with eight and is tied for seventh in most shutouts in a season with two. On the opposite end of the ice, Phillips is tied for ninth in program history in career points with 76 and also in career goals with 36, and is fourth in career power play goals with 14. The forward, who has 40 career assists, is also just one assist away from reaching the 10th spot in career helpers. Phillips and Volpe, who both have four power play goals each this season, are also one goal away from the 11th spot in power play goals in a season. Volpe is also tied for sixth in game-winners in a season with three.
SERIES
Colgate leads the all-time series 11-9-3 since the team first met in the 2001-02 season. Cornell, which has won the last six meetings in the series, already secured a win in the first meeting this season 6-2 at Starr Rink on Oct. 25. This will be the 13th meeting between the two teams in Ithaca, N.Y. with the Raiders owning a 5-5-2 record on the road.
SCOUTING #3/3 CORNELL
The Big Red (12-2, 8-1 ECAC Hockey), which was picked to win the title in the ECAC Hockey preseason poll, are coming off a pair of wins over Rensselaer and Union last weekend. The team is currently sitting in the second spot in the league standings with 16 points from eight wins. Its only league loss was to Dartmouth on Nov. 11.
Cornell is led by sophomore Brianne Jenner, freshman Jillian Saulnier and senior Rebecca Johnston. Jenner leads the way with 26 points from seven goals and 19 assists, while Saulnier and Johnston have 25 points apiece. Saulnier has 14 goals and 11 assists while Johnston has eight goals and 17 helpers. In goal, the team is led by senior Amanda Mazzotta who has a 2.23 goals against average and a total 145 saves for a .895 save percentage.
ECAC PRESEASON POLL
The Colgate women's ice hockey team was picked to finish ninth in the 2011-12 ECAC Hockey Preseason Poll that was released on Sept. 15. The Raiders received 41 points for ninth place above Yale, Brown and Union. Two-time defending regular-season and tournament champion Cornell was picked to finish first with 121 votes and 11 first-place votes.
