HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/28/12)— The Colgate University men's track and field team posted nine top-five showings winning the 400- and 1,000-meter along with the DMR on Saturday at the Class of '32 Invitational. Bloomsburg won the meet with 183 points, while Oneonta was second (155) and Colgate third with 90.
Senior
Graham Tooker won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.64, a full second faster than his time last season, while junior
Chris Johnson won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:27.74. Johnson's time is the fastest in the Patriot league this season and was an IC4A qualifying time. Johnson also anchored the distance medley relay team to a win with teammates
Timothy Phelps (1200),
Matt Levitsky (400) and
James Paris (800).
In the distance events Freshman
Ben Aldrich established a personal-best time of 9:26.86 in the 3K with fellow freshman
Eric Moore running a personal best 9:27.14. In the mile Phelps placed third with a personal-best time of 4:30.56.
In the mid Distance events, senior
Timothy Metivier finished second in the 1,000-meter run with freshman Paris finishing third and freshman Stephan Oliva placing sixth, scoring 27 points for Colgate. In the 800-meter freshmen
Richard Cummings and Nick Harper placed fourth and seventh for Colgate adding seven points.
In the sprinting events, junior
Jason Taylor placed third in the 60-meter hurdles and had to jog back to the start line to finish fifth in the dash. His only rest was the time it took to remove the hurdles from the track. The 4x400-meter relay team of Metivier, Boucher,
Michael Nieliwodski and Harper placed second overall adding eight points.
The Raiders return to the track on Friday February 3, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the Giegengack Invite hosted by Yale in New Haven, Conn.
