Men's Hoops Hosts Lafayette Before Traveling to Holy Cross This Week

The Raiders will look for their second win in Patriot League play on Wednesday.

The Colgate University men's basketball team will look for its second-straight Patriot League win when it hosts Lafayette on Wednesday, Jan. 25, before traveling to Holy Cross on Saturday, Jan. 28. Wednesday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access, while Saturday's game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network at 5:00 p.m.

THE SERIES WITH LAFAYETTE
This will be the 89th meeting between Colgate and Lafayette with the Raiders leading the all-time series 46-42. Lafayette swept the series last year, including an 80-65 win in Hamilton. The Raiders last win came during the 2009-10 season 74-73 in Easton, Pa.

THE SERIES WITH HOLY CROSS
This will be the 71st meeting between Colgate and Holy Cross with the Crusaders leading the all-time series 51-19. The two teams split the series last year with Colgate winning 79-72 at the Hart Center.

LAST TIME OUT
Junior center John Brandenburg scored a career-high 17 points, including six in overtime, as the Colgate men's basketball team captured its first Patriot League win of the season 65-54 over Navy Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court. The win also snapped an eight game losing streak for the Raiders.

After junior guard Mitch Rolls connected from downtown with seven seconds remaining to tie the game 52-52 at the end of regulation, the Raiders went on to dominate the overtime session scoring 12-straight points, including six from Brandenburg, to build the largest lead of the game 64-52 with a minute remaining. Brandenburg also recorded two blocked shots in overtime to help keep the Mids off the scoreboard.

Colgate shot 53.5 percent from the floor, including a perfect 3-for-3 in overtime, while holding Navy to 36.2 percent overall and just 1-of-9 in the extra session. Navy won the battle on the boards 37-36, but Colgate distributed eight more assists in the game and blocked seven shots as a team to help secure the win.

SCOUTING LAFAYETTE (8-12, 3-2)
Lehigh used 19 second-half points by C.J. McCollum and a pair of key runs in the final 20 minutes to pull away to a 90-76 decision over Lafayette on Sunday afternoon at Kirby Sports Center.

Four Leopards scored in double-figures as Ryan Willen led the way with 17 points, 15 in the second half, while Rob Delany added 16 and Patriot League Rookie of the Week Dan Trist scored 13. Jim Mower also pitched in 11 points for Lafayette that managed to shoot 49 percent from the field and 88 percent from the foul line.

SCOUTING HOLY CROSS (8-11, 2-3)
Bucknell shot 57.1 percent from the field in the second half, to pull away for a 75-41 victory over Holy Cross at Sojka Pavilion on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Devin Brown led the Crusaders with 11 points, while Dave Dudzinski added 10 points and five rebounds. Holy Cross shot just 24.6 percent from the floor on the night and 14.3 percent from three-point range. The Crusaders were also outrebounded by the Bison 50-31. Bucknell hit 44.6 percent of its field goal attempts in the game and 50.0 percent of its three-pointers.

ROH-ING UP THE MINUTES
Freshman guard Luke Roh has gradually been accumulating more minutes of playing time over the last month of action and during that time has more than doubled his performance on the court. In the first 13 games of the season Roh averaged 1.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 16 minutes of action. Over the last six games Roh has averaged 5.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in 23 minutes of action. Roh's 5.2 rebounds per game over the last month leads the team.

500-500-100 CLUB
Colgate senior Nick Pascale is closing in on becoming just the fifth Raider in school history to score 500 or more points, grab 500 or more rebounds and block 100 or more shots in a career. Pascale currently has 528 points, 507 rebounds and 96 blocked shots.

ROLLS SHARING THE ROCK
Colgate junior guard Mitch Rolls recently entered the top-10 all-time at Colgate with 250 assists. Rolls has distributed 44 helpers this season and is averaging 2.3 per game, which ranks 13th in the Patriot League. Rolls is currently tied with Pat Campolieta '02 (250) for seventh all-time. Hassan Brown '94 holds the school record with 484 assists.

1,000 POINTS AND COUNTING
Last season, senior forward Yaw Gyawu became the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club. Gyawu currently has 1,171 points which ranks 20th, only two points from passing Jon Simon '07 (1,172) for 19th overall.

VENEZIA KEEPS RAINING THREES
Colgate senior Mike Venezia has made a total of 176 three-pointers in his career which is fifth all-time at Colgate. Jon Simon '07 ranks fourth with 185 made three-pointers, while former teammate Kyle Roemer '10 holds the school record with 267. Venezia is also 67 points (933) away from becoming the 29th Raider to join the 1,000-point club.

UP NEXT
Colgate will conclude its non-conference slate with a trip to NJIT on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
