Raiders Welcome Princeton and Quinnipiac this Weekend

The team will look for a pair of league wins against Princeton and Quinnipiac this weekend.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/12/12) – The Colgate women's hockey team will return to the friendly confines of Starr Rink this weekend when it hosts Princeton and Quinnipiac in a pair of ECAC Hockey contests on Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
 
The Raiders are coming off a 3-0 setback to No. 3/3 Cornell on Tuesday night in Ithaca, N.Y. Senior goalie Kimberly Sass had 39 saves in the loss, improving her total saves this season to 545, which is second in the league.
 
LEAGUE PLAY
Colgate (8-12-1, 3-6-1 ECAC Hockey) is currently sitting in ninth place in the ECAC Hockey standings above Rensselaer, Union and Yale. The team has seven points from three wins over Yale, Princeton and Union, and a 1-1 overtime tie with Brown for a 3-6-1 league mark. On top of the standings is Quinnipiac with 20 points from a 9-3-2 conference record.

RAIDERS' SCORING LEADERS
Junior Brittany Phillips leads the team with 23 points from 10 goals and 13 assists. The forward is followed by freshman Melissa Kueber and sophomore Jocelyn Simpson who both have 15 points apiece. Kueber has 10 goals and five assists while Simpson has six goals and nine helpers. 

SERIES
Princeton leads the all-time series 17-6-2 since the all-time series first started in the 2001-02 season. The Raiders won the first meeting this season 6-4 on Nov. 19 in Princeton, N.J. Colgate has won the last three meetings at home, owning a 3-6-1 record against the Tigers at Starr Rink.
 
Colgate leads the all-time series, owning a 14-4-3 record since the teams first met in the 2001-02 season. Quinnipiac won the first meeting this season 6-2 in Hamden, Conn. on Nov. 18 and has won the last three matchups against the Raiders in Starr Rink. Colgate owns a 5-3-1 record at home.
 
SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers (7-9-4, 6-6-2 ECAC Hockey), who were picked to finish seventh in the ECAC Hockey preseason poll, currently hold the third spot in the league standings with 14 points from wins over Union, Harvard as well as Brown and Yale twice, and overtime ties with Rensselaer and Dartmouth. Its six league losses this season were to St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Cornell, Colgate and Quinnipiac twice.
 
Princeton, which is coming off a 3-0 win over Harvard and a 2-2 tie with Dartmouth, is led by sophomores Sally Butler and Denna Laing. Butler has a team-best 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points while Laing has 15 points from six goals and nine assists. Following them are sophomore Olivia Mucha and freshman Ali Pankowski who have 10 points each. Mucha has four goals and six assists while Pankowski has one goal and a team-best nine assists. Defending the net is ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week senior Rachel Weber. She leads the league with 560 saves, has a 1.98 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats (13-8-2, 9-3-2 ECAC Hockey), who were picked to finish third in the league's preseason poll, are currently sitting at the top of the league standings with 20 points. The team has nine wins over RPI, Union, Yale, St. Lawrence, Colgate, Brown, Yale and  against Princeton twice, ties with Brown and Harvard, and losses to Dartmouth, Cornell and Clarkson.
 
Quinnipiac, which will face No. 3/3 Cornell on Friday night, is led by sophomore Kelly Babstock and freshman Nicole Kosta. Babstock, who is third in the league in goals, has 26 points from 12 goals and four assists while Kosta has three goals and 13 assists for 16 points. Behind them are juniors Breann Frykas and Brittany Lyons who both have 11 points apiece. Frykas has six goals and five assists while Lyons has five goals and six assists. In goal the team is led by ECAC Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Month, junior Victoria Vigilanti. She has a 2.12 goals against average, six shut outs and a total of 429 saves for a .911 save percentage.
 
ECAC PRESEASON POLL
The Colgate women's ice hockey team was picked to finish ninth in the 2011-12 ECAC Hockey Preseason Poll that was released on Sept. 15. The Raiders received 41 points for ninth place above Yale, Brown and Union. Two-time defending regular-season and tournament champion Cornell was picked to finish first with 121 votes and 11 first-place votes.
