Men's Basketball Drops 70-57 Decision at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (1/11/2012) – Mike Muscala recorded his eighth double-double of the season as Bucknell handed the Colgate men's basketball team its second loss in Patriot League play 70-57 Wednesday night at Sojka Pavilion.

Colgate (5-11, 0-2) was led by Pat Moore and Brandon James who scored 10 points apiece, while Mitch Rolls scored nine points with three assists and one steal in the Raiders sixth-straight loss.

Both teams exchanged baskets to begin the game as the Bison held an early 8-7 lead during the first media timeout. The Bison would then extend their lead to 10-7, before Moore drained a three-pointer to tie the game with 15:02 remaining. Both teams then exchanged baskets from downtown, before Rolls connected on his second trifecta to give the Raiders a 16-13 lead with 14:05 remaining. But the Bison responded with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to claim a 23-16 lead. Colgate would trim the lead to 30-25 with 4:29 left, but that was as close as the game would get as the Bison ended the half with an 8-4 run to take a 38-29 lead into the locker room.

Bucknell (12-6, 2-0) made the first two buckets of the second half to build a 42-29 lead, before the Raiders answered back with an 11-8 run to make the score 48-40 with 12:30 remaining in regulation. Both teams then exchanged baskets for the next six minutes, before Bucknell went on a 13-6 run to build its largest lead of the game 65-50 with four minutes left. Bucknell's lead would stay at 15 until Luke Roh made a layup in the closing seconds to make the final score 70-57.

Muscala finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Bryson Johnson scored a game-high 17 points and Bryan Cohen pitched in 13 to lead the Bison.

Bucknell shot 52.9 percent from the floor, including 46.2 percent from three-point range, while Colgate shot 37 percent overall and 33.3 percent from downtown. The Bison also won the battle on the boards 38-25, but committed 14 turnovers that resulted in 13 points for Colgate. The Raiders only committed eight turnovers in the game while dishing out 10 assists.

The Raiders will host Lehigh on Saturday, Jan. 14 for their Patriot League home opener. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.
