Raider Chat With Amanda Kirwan

Senior Amanda Kirwan
Colgate University women's hockey senior, Amanda Kirwan, was able to take time from her busy schedule to answer a series of questions that would help fans and the Colgate family know more about her off the ice.

Last season Kirwan played in all 33 games and started in 13, finishing the season fourth on the team with 18 points from three goals and 15 assists. She also had five two-point games.

On what made her choose to play ice hockey and when she started playing …
“I do not mean to sound cliché when I say this, but yes my older brother was the reason why I started playing hockey. As most annoying little sisters, I wanted to do all the things my older brother was doing and picked up hockey a year after he started. I started playing when I was seven years old.”

On what sport she would play if she was not playing ice hockey …
" If I was not playing hockey I think I would take up a career in roller derby. Enough said.”

On what she did this summer …
“I spent most of my summer working, training, and hanging out with friends. For the past three summers, I have been working full time with CIBC Wood Gundy, a bank in Downtown Toronto. I also switched gyms and went back to my trainers at The Athlete Training Centre in Mississauga. Their program is phenomenal and has put me in top shape, both strength and cardio wise. The rest of my time was spent with my standard summer crew.”

On what people would be surprised to know about her … “One thing that people would be surprised to know about me is that I can fold paper origami. My specialty is taking a paper as small as a Starburst or gum wrapper and creating a masterpiece, and by this I mean a paper swan, in a matter of minutes. ”

On who she thinks is the funniest person on her team …
" After evaluating my team, there were many candidates that could be honored with this label. My final decision might come to a surprised to some but incoming freshmen, Susan Allen (chant), would take this throne. “

On if she could star in any reality TV show, which one it would be … “If I could star in any reality TV show I would choose to be a guest fitness/personal trainer on The Biggest Loser. No excuses.”

On what cartoon character she thinks most resembles her …
“SpongeBob because I can Cat Daddy (a new dance).“

On if she could cast any actress to play her in a movie and what kind of movie it would be … “If I could cast any actress to play me in a movie it would be Kate Hudson. The kind of movie would obviously have to be an action/drama. “

On who her all-time Colgate athlete was (past or present) …
" This question is a no-brainer. I have two current favorite all-time Colgate Athletes. The first would be linebacker and captain of the football team, Chris DiMassa, because he is unreal. But a very close second would be a beauty on the men`s ice hockey team, Mark Nasca."
