HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/15/11) - Senior Colgate women's tennis player
Stephanie Brown took time out of her busy day with the New York Knicks to talk with gocolgateraiders.com about her summer experience and what she is looking forward to this season.
Brown played in 19 matches a season ago as a team co-captain. She played from the second to the fourth spots in the starting lineup in singles play and won four of the matches. Brown was an important doubles player for the Raiders as she earned a 6-8 mark at the top spot along with sophomore
Alex Petrini.
On her position with the New York Knicks marketing department ... I am currently working as an intern for the Knicks Marketing department. Working for them has been such a great experience. I've really learned a lot and made some great connections which will hopefully help me in the future when looking for a job. I have a variety of different responsibilities, but a lot of them have to do with digital marketing, so I work a lot with the Facebook page, Twitter page, and the websites. I track how these sites are doing and analyze what kind of content fans respond to and what they don't respond to. Another project that I spent some time working on this summer was research into how to get college students more invested in the Knicks and what we can do to connect more with them.
On how she got the intern position ... Working in the sports industry has always been what I've wanted to do, so when looking for a job this summer I knew that I wanted to stay in New York. I then contacted someone that I know who works at Madison Square Garden, who then helped me get my resume to the right places and after that I contacted their Human Resources department about their summer internships and finally got called back to do some interviews which eventually led to a job.
On the upcoming season ... I'm really looking forward to playing an entire season of tennis this year after missing a semester while I was abroad. I think we have a great young team and that it'll be a fun season, which is something that I'm really looking forward to.
Individual and team goals for the season ... My goals for the season are to end the year with a winning record, both for the team and myself. Our team has also made it to the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament every year that I have been here, so I really hope to keep that streak alive this season.
Which professional player would you want to face and why? ... If I could play against anyone in tennis, it would be the Bryan brothers, because I love playing doubles and think it would be a great experience to play against the best in the world.
Your pick to win the U.S. Open in September? ... For the U.S. Open I would pick Novak Djokovic to win the tournament for the men, because he has been playing very well this season. For the women, I don't know who will win, but I would like to see Serena Williams come back and win after all of the hardship she has faced this season.
