Men’s Lacrosse Set for Fairfield on Saturday

Colgate will travel to Fairfield for a matchup on Saturday.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (3/17/11)
– The Colgate men's lacrosse team will hit the road once again for a matchup against Fairfield on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. This will be the Raiders' last non-conference game before the Patriot League tournament at the end of April.

Colgate (4-3, 1-0 PL) is coming off a 7-6 loss to Binghamton on Tuesday night. Despite making a late comeback, the Raiders could not secure the win, dropping their first home game of the season. Senior Ben McCabe led the team with three goals while sophomore Peter Baum, senior co-captain Andrew Mould and junior Jeff Ledwick added one goal each.

DYNAMIC DUO
Baum and Mould have been a vital part of Colgate's offense this season. Combined, they have accumulated 34 of the teams 95 points and 29 of its 64 goals. Baum is on a seven-game point streak, having recorded at least one point in all seven games this season while Mould, who has tallied two goals on four occasions, has recorded at least one point in six of the seven games. Together, both players have also contributed at least half of the team's goals in four of the seven games, with as many as eight goals in Colgate's 13-8 win over Dartmouth.

TEAM LEADERS
Baum, who leads the league in goals per game (2.71), continues to lead the team in scoring with 23 points from 19 goals and four assists. He is followed by Mould who has 10 goals and one assist for 11 points. Senior co-captain Rob Bosco and classmate McCabe are tied at third with nine points. Bosco has four goals and five assists while McCabe has seven goals and two assists.

DEFENDING THE NET
Junior Jared Madison was recently named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for his performance in the team's 13-3 win over Holy Cross last week, during which he made nine saves and allowed only two goals for a .818 save percentage. The New Jersey native has played and started in all seven games for the Raiders. He has made a total of 62 saves this season, earning him a .549 save percentage, which has him ranked at third in the league. Madison has faced a total of 113 shots on goal this season and has a 7.43 goals against average.

THE SERIES
Fairfield holds a slight advantage in the all-time series, owning a 3-2 record against the Raiders. Since the teams first met in 1997, Colgate has lost twice at home and once at a neutral site, with the Stags winning the last meeting 10-8 in Hamilton, N.Y. The Raiders' only two wins were in Fairfield, Conn., giving them a perfect 2-0 record against Fairfield on the road.

SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
The Stags (4-2, 1-0 ECAC) are coming off a 9-6 win over Vermont on Monday. The team, which was picked to finish third in the ECAC Preseason Poll, also has wins against Lafayette, Quinnipiac and Air Force and has suffered losses to Bryant and Villanova.

Fairfield, which currently has a 3-1 winning record at home, is led by seniors Max Trunz and Doug Kuring. Trunz leads the team in points with 11 from one goal and a team-best 10 assists while Kuring, who leads the league in game-winning goals (2), is second with a team-high nine goals and one assist for 10 points. In goal the Stags are led by junior Charlie Cipriano. He leads the league in goals against average (5.68) and in save percentage (.638), which are both ranked in the top-10 nationally.

BAUM ON TEWAARATON AWARD WATCH LIST
Baum was recently named to the 2011 Tewaaraton Award watch list. This annual list is made up of the top lacrosse players across all three divisions of collegiate lacrosse and highlights the early hopefuls for the 2011 Tewaaraton Award honors. The Tewaaraton Award was formally established in August of 2000 by The University Club of Washington, D.C. and is the pre-eminent lacrosse award, which is awarded annually to the NCAA male and female lacrosse players of the year.
