PRINCETON, N.J. (11/19/11)
– The Colgate women's hockey team was able to rally from behind twice on Saturday afternoon to eventually defeat Princeton 6-4 in its seventh ECAC Hockey matchup of the season.

Sophomore Shannon Doyle led the Raiders with three points from two goals and an assist while sophomores Rachel Walsh and Jocelyn Simpson had two points each from one goal and one assist apiece. Freshmen Melissa Kueber and Katie Case also recorded one tally each for the team.

Colgate (5-8-1, 2-4-1 ECAC Hockey) came out to a strong start, generating the first four shots of the game on net to force the Tigers' goalie to make some saves. However, three minutes into play, a checking penalty on the Raiders allowed Princeton to find some offense and take shots at Colgate's net. The shooting momentum then allowed the Tigers to find their first goal on a delayed penalty at the 6:46 mark to take an early 1-0 lead. Princeton then found a power play goal less than 60 seconds later to stretch its lead to two goals. The Raiders continued to play hard and soon found a break with an extra skater advantage midway through the half but could not capitalize. It was Princeton that was able to find success with a third goal at the 13:26 mark, and despite an offensive surge from Colgate in the final minutes of the stanza, ended the first period with a three-goal lead.

The Raiders had an explosive start in the second frame, finding a power play goal from Kueber just 1:46 into play to put the score at 3-1. The senior was assisted by Walsh and Doyle. As the period progressed, both teams took turns firing shots at net as they tested the goalies but by the midway point, the score remained 3-1 to the Tigers.  Colgate then found its offensive rhythm once again and its persistence resulted in a pair of goals at the 14:17 and 15:24 marks from Walsh and Doyle to tie the game at 3-3 going into the final period. Walsh was assisted by Simpson and senior co-captain Amanda Kirwan, while Doyle had help from sophomore Taylor Volpe.

In the final frame it looked like the Princeton would be able to secure the win when it scored an early fourth goal 4:54 into play to reclaim their lead 4-3. However, the goal did not discourage the Raiders, who then found an equalizer at the 7:35 mark courtesy of Simpson to tie the game at 4-4. Colgate continued to attack the Tigers' net aggressively and was eventually rewarded with a goal at the 16:55 mark by Case with help from junior Jessica Hootz, and then again with a second tally from Doyle on an empty net with an assist from senior goalie Kimberly Sass at the 19:30 mark, to eventually secure its second league win 6-4.

Sass had a total of 25 saves for the Raiders while Rachel Weber had 32 stops for Princeton. Colgate outshot the Tigers 38-29 in the game. Both teams went 2-for-6 on the power play.

The Raiders will resume play on Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a non-conference matchup against Robert Morris at 7 p.m. in Starr Rink.
