PRINCETON, N.J. (1/9/11) – In a game that featured five power play goals and four lead changes, the Colgate men's hockey team fell just shy of a victory with a 5-4 loss to Princeton Sunday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Colgate (3-16-1, 0-7-1 ECAC) was led by
Jeremy Price with three points on three assists, while
Francois Brisebois and
Kurtis Bartliff had a goal and an assist for two points apiece.
Alex Evin had a great effort between the pipes with 39 saves in the loss.
Princeton (11-6-1, 7-4-1 ECAC) got two goals and an assist from Kevin Lohry, while Andrew Calof had two assists for two points. Mike Condon made just 17 saves, but got the win.
It didn't take Princeton long to get on the board for the 1-0 lead as the Tigers scored 1:25 into the opening period. Lohry scored on a rush up the right side at the right circle as the puck beat Evin above the blocker. Eric Meland and Matt Godlewski were credited with the assists. Bartliff tied the game at 1-1 on the power play with a blast from the left point for his third goal of the year. Price assisted on the play for his sixth helper of the year and Brisebois also added an assist. The Bartliff shot beat Condon on the glove side and went top corner.
Brisebois gave Colgate its first lead at 2-1 on a nice 5-on-3 power play goal with 1:33 left in the first.
Austin Smith won the faceoff to Bartliff and he slid the puck to Price. He saw Brisebois sneaking to the near post and hit him on a slap pass. Brisebois connected on the pass and Condon couldn't recover. Bartliff and Price were given assists.
Princeton evened the game at two with a 5-on-3 power play goal of its own to begin the second period. Evin made a tremendous save on the initial shot but Mike Kramer collected the rebound and beat the Colgate netminder between the pads to tie the game. Prockow gave the lead back to the Raiders at 3-2 on a nice set up from
Kevin McNamara with 7:40 left in the period. McNamara received a pass from Price and slipped a pass through the crease to a wide-open Prockow. He then chipped the puck over Condon's glove for the lead.
The Tigers evened it again with another 5-on-3 power play goal to tie it at 3-3 with 4:47 left in the second period. Eric Meland was given the goal as he collected a rebound and put a shot over Evin's right pad.
Lohry made it 4-3 in favor of the Tigers early in the third, scoring his second of the night on a 2-on-1 break. Colgate got caught in the offensive zone and Lohry picked up the puck at center ice and beat Evin. Brodie Zuk scored Princeton's third power play of the game 1:10 after Lohry to make it 5-3.
Colgate answered 14 seconds later as Bourdon fired a laser from the blueline that beat Condon to cut the lead to 5-4.
The Raiders were outshot 44-21 in the game and went 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Tigers scored three times on seven opportunities with the extra man.
