HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/7/11) – The Colgate women's basketball team experienced its first Patriot League setback when it fell to Army 54-40 on Friday night in Cotterell Court. This was the team's first conference game of the season.

Senior Krista Moser led the team with 12 points and four rebounds while sophomore Jhazmine Lynch and junior Kelly Korkowski had a team-best five rebounds each.

The game started off slow, with both teams struggling to find baskets in their first league game of the season. Colgate got on the board first with a jump shot from Korkowski, and as the game progressed both teams picked up the pace as they traded baskets, with the Raiders maintaining a slight lead. Midway through the half however, Army found its rhythm, going on an 11-0 run to put the score at 16-6 at the 5:52 mark. Colgate continued to play hard, reducing the scoring margin to four points with just two minutes left, but by halftime, it was the Black Knights that held the 20-16 advantage.

In the second half the teams came out playing aggressively, with Army looking to extend its lead and the Raiders looking to reclaim the advantage they held early in the game. The teams continued to exchange baskets similar to the way they did in the first half, but by the 14:04 mark, the Black Knights had extended their lead to 35-24. Colgate battled back, making one important play one important play after another, however in the end Army proved to be too strong, handing the Raiders their first league setback of the season.

“We give credit to Army for taking us out of our offense,” stated head coach Pamela Bass. “Between their rebounding and our field goal percentage, we dug ourselves a hole that we couldn't get out of.”

Colgate had a 32.6 field goal percentage and was 12-of-18 from the charity stripe while the Black Knights had a 37.3 field goal percentage and were 12-of-18 from the line. Army out-rebounded the Raiders 44-22.

The team will resume play on Wednesday, Jan. 12 when it hosts Patriot League opponent, Lafayette, at 7 p.m. on Cotterell Court.
