HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/15/11)
– Junior center Nick Pascale (DeWitt, N.Y.) scored a career-high 17 points and two other Raiders reached double-digits but it wasn't enough as Colgate dropped its third league game of the season 66-57 to American Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court.

The Raiders held a 24-20 lead late in the first half, but an 8-0 run by American gave the Eagles a lead they would never surrender. Vlad Moldoveanu led American with a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds and scored 19 of his points in the second half to help the Eagles improve to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in Patriot League play.

Junior forward Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, Ga.) led the Raiders with 19 points, while sophomore guard Mitch Rolls pitched in 12. Pascale also contributed a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks.

Colgate (1-15, 0-3) led by four points on three different occasions in the first half including a 24-20 lead with 4:03 remaining after junior Mike Venezia (Westfield, N.J.) nailed a three pointer off a nice pass from Pascale. But American would score the final eight points of the half to take a 28-24 lead into the locker room.

The Raiders began the second half with an 11-7 run and tied the score 35-35 after a two handed dunk by Pascale, off a pretty pass by freshman Pat Moore (Utica, N.Y.). But that would be as close as Colgate would get as Moldoveanu answered with back-to-back three pointers to give American a 41-35 lead. Colgate would trim the lead to 48-46 with 5:53 remaining, but the Eagles closed the game with an 18-11 run.

Colgate will continue its homestand on Monday, Jan. 17 as the Raiders welcome Dartmouth to Cotterell Court. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and will be available live on Colgate All-Access.
