GREENVILLE, S.C. (9/11/10)
— Junior running back Nate Eachus (Drums, Pa.) rushed 28 times for 134 yards and one touchdown, but it wasn't enough as the No. 25 Colgate Raiders fell to Furman 45-15, Saturday afternoon at Paladin Stadium.

Senior quarterback Greg Sullivan (Monroe, N.Y.) combined for 108 yards, while sophomore wide receiver Jonathan Mputu (Orlando, Fla.) recorded his first two career receptions for the Raiders.

Furman (1-0) opened the scoring with a field goal in the first quarter from freshman Ray Early and then extended the lead to 10-0 in the second quarter off an eight-yard run by Jerry Williams.

Colgate (1-1) got on the board in the second quarter when Sullivan capped off a nine play 63-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run to bring the Raiders within three 10-7. Eachus highlighted the drive with 44 yards on four carries, including 10 yards on 4th-and-1 to keep the drive alive.

The Paladins increased their lead to 17-7 at halftime off a 19-yard touchdown pass from Cody Worley to Tyler Maples with 50 seconds remaining.

Furman opened the second half with the ball and went 73 yards in 13 plays to increase the lead to 24-7. The Raiders tried to respond on their next drive after junior Noah Jackson (Vista, Calif.) gave them good field position with a 20-yard return. Colgate started to move the ball and had a first down on the Furman 46-yard line before back-to-back penalties ended the drive.

The Paladins then opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back touchdowns to build their lead to 38-7, before Colgate responded with a 12 play 73–yard scoring drive concluded with a one yard touchdown run from Eachus. Sullivan scored on the two-point conversion on a quarterback keeper to bring the score to 38-15.

Furman would finish the game with a nine play 78-yard drive that nearly ate the final five minutes of the game to finish 45-15.

GAME NOTES: Eachus became the 15th Colgate running back to accrue 2,000 rushing yards in his Colgate career. Colgate is now 0-2 historically against Furman.
