Game 1      Game 2

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (4/14/2010)    –
Shannon Jones belted a three-run homer to pace Siena to an 8-1 victory over Colgate in the second game of a doubleheader, Wednesday afternoon at Siena Field.  The Saints downed the Raiders 6-1 in the opener.

Siena, which improved to 7-26 overall, opened the second game with a walk and a hit by pitch before the freshman deposited her fourth homer of the year over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the first.  The Saints wouldn't relinquish the lead.

The Raiders got on the board in the top of the second as Jennifer Ortega (Aberdeen, N.J.) stole second and an errant throw by the Saints' backstop sailed into centerfield allowing Natalie Siedhof (Canton, Pa.) to score from third.

After reliever Courtney O'Connell (Palm Harbor, Fla.) retired the Saints in the second, Colgate had an opportunity to draw closer.  With one out, the Raiders loaded the bases with a single and back-to-back walks.  However, pitcher Courtney Brinkman made a diving catch on a pop up by Natalie Siedhof and threw to third to double off Alana Dyson (Grovetown, Ga.) to end the rally.

Siena put the game away with a five-run bottom of the fifth inning.  Lacy Ver Steeg (Elk Grove, Calif.), who started the game and faced the first three batters of the contest, fell to 0-1 on the season.

The Raiders were held to three hits in the loss, all coming from the top three spots in the batting order.  Stephanie Hartquist (Homer, N.Y.) singled in the first to extend her hitting streak to 19 games; Dyson doubled to left in the third and Melissa Babb-Renta (Glenview, Ill.) singled to the right side in the fifth.  The Saints finished with nine hits in the win.  O'Connell pitched six strong innings allowing two unearned runs over six frames.  The freshman fanned a collegiate high six in the loss.

Like in the second game, Siena did some damage in the opening inning by posting two runs. With runners on first and second with no outs, Jones singled to center to plate Amanda Ferro from second.  The freshman advanced to second on an error which allowed Sara Gallacchi to score the Saints' second run of the frame.

Colgate scored once in the top of the sixth to pull within 2-1.  With one out, Dyson singled to center and then promptly stole second.  After moving to third on a groundout, Hartquist
delivered an infield single in her last at bat of the game to plate Dyson.

The Saints regained the two-run advantage in the bottom of the sixth with a lead-off homer to left by Lauren Weingert.  Siena added three more runs on a two run single by pinch hitter Kirstyn Vaughn and a successful double steal with runners on second and third.

Amanda Filippazzo went the distance on a three-hitter to improve to 3-17 overall, while Michelle Hollebeke (North Reading, Mass.) suffered the defeat allowing seven hits and five earned runs over six innings of work.

Colgate, now 20-12 overall, returns to action this weekend by travelling to face Patriot League foe, Bucknell.
