HAMILTON, N.Y. (3/12/2010) – Mike McKenzie scored a power play goal with 4:39 remaining in the third period to lead St. Lawrence to a 2-1 victory over Colgate in the opening game of an ECAC Hockey quarterfinal match-up at Starr Rink.
Colgate went on the power play with 55 seconds left and pulled its goalie for a two-man advantage with 17 ticks remaining, but couldn't get the equalizer in the closing seconds.
The Saints, who improved to 18-14-7, took a 1-0 advantage at 17:07 of the first as Aaron Bogosian scored his 12th of the year from George Hughes and Peter Child.
Colgate evened the game at 1-1 as Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) fed Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas), who banged the puck in from the left post for his 16th of the season. It was the sophomore's fifth play-off goal of his career.
Goaltender Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) saved 29 shots, including 11 in the final period in the loss, while Kain Tisi stopped 31 of 32 shots on net. The Saints, who posted their fifth consecutive win versus Colgate, went one of six on the power play. The Raiders were held scoreless in six opportunities.
Colgate, who fell to 15-14-6 overall, will attempt to force a third and deciding game Saturday evening at Starr Rink. The opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
