WEST POINT, N.Y. (2/7/10)
-- Cleveland Richard scored 17 points and Julian Simmons pitched in 14 as Army defeated Colgate 63-49 on Sunday afternoon.

Senior guard Kyle Roemer (Martinez, Calif.) led the Raiders with 17 points and six boards. Sophomore forward Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, Ga.) pitched in 13, and senior forward Ben Jonson (Dallas, Texas) had 10. Freshman point guard Mitch Rolls (Coffeyville, Kan.) had eight points to go along with a team-high three assists.

Tied at 29 at halftime, the Black Knights opened the second half with a 19-5 run that elapsed just over 10 minutes. Trailing 48-34 at that point, the Raiders could not cut Army's lead down to single digits for the remainder of the game.

Colgate began the game with a 6-0 run thanks to a Rolls three, Roemer layup and a Gyawu free throw before Simmons ended the hot stretch with a three-pointer. Roemer immediately responded with a three-pointer to put Colgate up 9-3 just before the under-sixteen timeout. The hot-shooting California native made another three later in the half to give Colgate a 14-8 lead with 13:51 left, but the Raiders then entered a cold spell that lasted for the rest of the game. Army responded with a 10-3 run, taking the lead off an Eric Zastoupil layup, giving the Black Knights an 18-17 advantage. The lead changed hands four times before both teams settled for a halftime draw.

Although Colgate held Army to just 39.6 percent shooting, the Raiders were out-rebounded 36-24 on the afternoon. Army also made 16-of-22 free throws, while Colgate mustered just 7-of-15 makes from the charity stripe.

Colgate (6-16, 2-6) will finish its three-game road trip with a game against second-place Lafayette on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Easton, Pa. The game can be seen on Patriot League All-Access.
