Saturday, February 6 – Army, 2 p.m. (Patriot League All-Access)
The Raiders will kick-off the second half of Patriot League play with Army this weekend as they continue their three-game home stand at Cotterell Court. Colgate will host the Black Knights on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. as a part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Scouting the Black Knights
Army holds a 9-12 record overall and are in a three-way tie for third place in the Patriot League standings with a 3-4 mark. The Black Knights split their two games last weekend, downing Lafayette, 54-38, on Wednesday, Jan. 27 before falling to Bucknell, 59-41, on Saturday, Jan. 30. Junior Erin Anthony leads Army both in scoring and on the boards averaging 16.5 points per game along with 10.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Classmates Nalini Hawkins and Jessie Coiffard follow Anthony on offense with Hawkins picking up 9.9 points per game and Coiffard adding 8.3 per game. Hawkins also gathers 4.4 rebounds and leads the team in steals with an average of 1.3 per game. Coiffard dishes out an average of 2.6 assists per game to go along with 4.2 rebounds. Head coach Dave Magarity is in his fourth season as the Army women's basketball coach. Magarity led the Black Knights to a 19-12 overall finish last season and a 9-4 mark in the Patriot League.
Last Time Out
The Raiders are tied for sixth place in the league standings with a conference record of 2-5 after splitting their conference games last week. Colgate fell to Holy Cross, 65-56, on Wednesday, Jan. 27 before outlasting Navy, 56-54, on Saturday. Rookie
Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) laid in the game-winning basket with just 13 seconds left on the clock as Colgate defeated Navy on Saturday, Jan. 30 at Cotterell Court. Senior
Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) led the Raiders with 16 points and added five rebounds and four steals, while Lynch had 13 points, three boards and three assists on the day. Junior
Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) led the squad in rebounding with six to go along with five points.
The Raiders shot 40 percent (20-50) from the field while Navy went 13-43 from the floor (30.2 percent). The Mids held a slight advantage in rebounds 35-29. The previous Wednesday, Jan. 27, Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) had 15 points and four rebounds while Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) picked up a team-high six boards and added seven points in the Raiders loss at Holy Cross.
Series vs. Army
Army – The Black Knights hold a 28-18 advantage in the all-time series against the Raiders, after defeating Colgate, 63-57, in their Patriot League opener back on Jan. 9.
Freshman Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) scored 19 points and Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) added 11 points and five rebounds in a game that featured nine ties and eight lead changes. With 3:44 left on the clock the Raiders tied the game at 49 with a basket from Oakes, but Army went on an 11-0 run to gain the advantage, 60-49 with just 52 remaining in the game. Oakes added five more points in the final minute but the Black Knights held on for the 63-57 win. Army's Erin Anthony led all scorers with 20 points and 12 rebounds for Army, followed by Jessie Coiffard with 19 points.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day
Colgate athletics will hold its annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day this Saturday, Feb. 6, beginning at 1 p.m. The event will also correspond with the women's basketball and women's ice hockey games later in the day. Starting at 1 p.m. anyone 12 years old and younger is invited to join Raider for free bowling and pizza at the Reid Athletic Center bowling alley. At 2 p.m. the women's basketball team will host Army at Cotterell Court. All kids 12 and under will get a free regulation sized basketball. All fans 12 and under will receive free admission to both games as well as two free adult tickets for their parents or guardian.
Leading the Way
Sophomore Tricia Oakes is currently leading the Raiders in scoring with an average of 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while junior Sami Kozlowski is averaging 10.0 points and 2.0 assists per game. Rookie Jhazmine Lynch is third in scoring and leads the freshmen class with 9.1 points and 1.6 steals per game. Junior Krista Moser follows Oakes in rebounding averaging 5.0 per game along with 4.7 points, while sophomore Candice Green (East Brunswick, N.J.) leads adds 6.0 points and dishes out a team-high 2.3 assists per game.
Weekly Honors
Colgate freshman Jhazmine Lynch was named the Patriot League Anaconda Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 6. It marked the second time this season that Lynch has been honored with the award. The rookie guard had 21 points, five rebounds, and seven assists last week. Lynch scored 12 points and had four assists against Bryant last Tuesday. On Thursday, she picked up nine points, two steals and three assists. The Rookie of the Week award has gone to a Colgate student-athlete 10 times since the start of last season.
Top Returners
The Raiders return 10 players to this year's squad, including four starters from the 2008-09 season. Junior
Tayler Wejnert returns to the Colgate squad after appearing in 20 games last season. Wejnert led the team in scoring averaging 11.7 points per game, followed by fellow junior
Sami Kozlowski who averaged 9.7 points and led the team in steals with 33 in 30 starts with the Raiders.
Tricia Oakes led Colgate on the boards as a freshman, pulling down 6.0 rebounds in 22 games. Sophomore
Candice Green also started in all 30 games for the Raiders last season averaging 6.5 points and 2.5 rebounds.
Preseason Picks
The Colgate women's basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2010 Patriot League preseason coaches and sports information directors poll. Defending champion Lehigh was selected to repeat this year, with 97 total points and 13-first place votes. Following the Mountain Hawks in order are American (76, 3 first-place), Holy Cross (76), Navy (54), Bucknell (52), Army (50), Colgate (22) and Lafayette (21). Lehigh's Erica Prosser was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year.

The Raiders will next host Lafayette as its wrap up their three-game home stand on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Colgate will face the Leopards for the second time this season with tip-off set for 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, Feb. 13, the Raiders will take on American in our nation's capital at 2 p.m.
