Moser Records Double-Double in Loss at American

WASHINGTON, D.C. (2/13/10) -   The American women's basketball team ended Colgate's three-game win streak on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C. The Eagles downed the Raiders, 82-47, as they improved to 9-1 in the Patriot League and 16-8 overall. Colgate slips to 9-15 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
 
Junior Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) finished with a double-double to lead the Raiders in scoring, recording 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) added eight points and four boards while junior Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) contributed seven points and three assists.
 
The Raiders however couldn't stop American's Liz Leer who scored a game-high 27 points to go with five assists and eight rebounds. Lisa Strack and Michelle Kirk added 14 points and two assists apiece.
 
Senior Nyanin Ohemaa had four points in the opening minute to give American the first lead of the game. Kozlowski responded with five points of her own including a three-pointer and sophomore Holly Havenstein added a basket to put the Raiders within one, 8-7, three minutes into the game. The Eagles however, went on an 8-0 run to gain a nine point lead over the Raiders. Leer scored all eight points during the American run, draining two three's to go with a jumper.
 
The Eagles led by as much as 15 in the first half but Moser closed the half with seven points for Colgate to bring them within 12. American, which shot 54.2 percent in the first session including going 9-10 from the free-throw line, went into the half-time break with a 38-26 advantage. The Raiders were just 9-23 (39.1 percent) in the first half but were 6-8 from the charity stripe.
 
Leer opened the second half with another long-range shot to give the Eagles a 15 point lead, 41-26. American used another 8-3 run to earn a twenty point advantage and never looked back, winning the game by a 35 point margin.
 
Thirteen Colgate players saw action in the game including newcomer Kaleigh Durket (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) who had one rebound in her first game for the Raiders. Colgate shot 28.3 percent (15-53) on the day while the Eagles went 27-52 (51.9 percent) from the floor. American had just a slight advantage in rebounding, 36-34.
 
Colgate will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when they take on defending Patriot League champion Lehigh at 7 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
