LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (11/15/10)
– The Colgate women's basketball suffered its second setback of the season when it fell to Siena 66-56 on Monday night in Loundonville, N.Y. Despite holding the lead throughout the first half, the Raiders' offense could not find the baskets they needed to win the game.

Junior center Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) recorded her first double-double of the season with a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore guard Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) had 11 points and a game-high four steals.

Colgate (0-2) got off to a good start, opening scoring in the first minute of play. As the half progressed, the Raiders were able to break through Siena's defense, driving up the lane and making some easy baskets. The teams continued to rally back and forth but it was Colgate that held the slight advantage, entering half time with a 32-30 lead thanks to a layup from Oakes in the final minutes of the half.

In the second half the Raiders came out strong once again, continuing to hold their early lead. Midway through the half however, it was the Saints that were able to find their groove, building a five-point lead over Colgate. The Raiders offense then became stagnant, losing nine straight shots and allowing Siena to extend its lead to 12 points with just six minutes left on the clock. Colgate continued to rally back but could not get the lid off of their basket, eventually falling to the Saints.

Colgate shot 21.2 percent in the second half as opposed to 50 percent in the first, and was 34.9 throughout the game. The team was 9-12 from the charity stripe, with all 12 free throws coming in the second half, and had 30 of its 56 points from the paint, with 20 coming in the first half.

“We did a much better job establishing a post presence and I think we did a good job on the boards,” stated head coach Pam Bass. “ The next step is establishing a consistent outside attack. Tricia Oakes, Krista Moser and Kelly Korkowski did well to make sure that we limited Siena's offensive boards to just six”

Colgate will resume play when it hosts NJIT in its home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. on Cotterell Court.
