CANTON, N.Y.  (1/15/2010)
– St. Lawrence scored four times in the span of 7:29 of the third period en route to posting a 4-0 victory over visiting Colgate in men's ECAC Hockey action, Friday evening at Appleton Arena.

The Saints, who upped their record to 11-8-3 overall and 5-3-1 in league play, broke the scoreless deadlock on their 22nd shot of the evening.  At 9:18 of the third, Mike  McKenzie netted the game winning goal, his fifth goal of the campaign.  St. Lawrence scored twice in the matter of 17 seconds as Alex Curran and Rick Carden lit the lamp at 14:24 and 14:41 respectively.  The Saints added a power play goal from Travis Vermeulen at 16:47 to close the scoring.

It marked the first time Colgate had been shutout since a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Dartmouth, November 21, 2009 at Starr Rink.  The loss dropped the Raiders to 7-9-4 overall and 5-4-1 in league action.

After recording five of the game's first seven shots, Colgate found itself in a precarious situation at the midway point of the first period.  The Raiders where whistled for back-to-back infractions leading to a five on three for St. Lawrence – the first  being  a five-minute checking from behind major.  Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) came up big between the pipes for Colgate.  The senior netminder saved six shots during a span of 1:38 and the Colgate defense blocked two more shots fired on net as both teams went into intermission scoreless.

The Raiders had three power play opportunities in the second period and another one carry into the third, but failed to capitalize.  Colgate went scoreless in six man advantage opportunities, while the Saints converted one of four on the evening.

Long allowed three goals and finished the evening with 22 saves before being replaced with 5:19 left by Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.).  Kain Tisi was credited with 20 saves on the evening.

Colgate will look to snap its four-game losing streak Saturday evening as it plays Clarkson.  Opening face-off at Cheel Arena is set for 7 p.m.
