Raiders Drop to Princeton 3-1 in Women's Hockey

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/6/2009) – Senior Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.) recorded her fourth goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Colgate University women's hockey team lost to Princeton 3-1 Friday evening at Hobey Baker Rink. 

Princeton (14-9-1, 11-6) opened the scoring 4:35 into the first when Paula Romanchuk slid one by freshman goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.).The Tigers added their second goal nearly five minutes later as Christine Foster found the back of the net off an assist from Sasha Sherry. Sherry was also credited with an assist on the first goal.
 
Todd's goal against Princeton goaltender Kristen Young came on a power-play with 20 seconds remaining in the first to close the gap 2-1.  Juniors Nicole McDonald (Calgary, Alta.) and Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) were both credited with assists.  
 
Princeton forward Heather Landry would extend the Tigers lead 3-1 with a goal 17:58 into the second. The Raiders had a couple chances to tie the score mid-way through period with back-to-back power-plays, but couldn't get past Young.
 
Colgate (15-10-3, 9-5-3) looked to tie the game in the third but was unable to due to four penalties.  
 
The Tigers out-shot Colgate 32-19 for the game. Sass made 29 saves in the loss while Young recorded 18 for Princeton. Colgate finished 1-7 on the power play and went a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill for the fifth straight game.
 
Colgate returns to action tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 7 as it travels to Quinnipiac. The contest is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
