Women’s Basketball Closes out Regular Season on Saturday

Senior Gretchen Polinski will be honored before Saturday's game

HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/27/09) -   The Colgate women's basketball team will wrap up its regular season schedule at home this Saturday when they host Patriot League opponent Navy on Cotterell Court.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:07 p.m. on Senior Day. 

 

The game can be seen live on Time Warner Sports, Channel 26 in Central New York.  Chris Watson will handle the play-by-play with Danny Liedke on color commentary.  Saturday's game can also be heard locally on WKXZ 94 FM and 99.3 FM.  

 

The Raiders (5-23, 1-12) currently sit in eighth place in the Patriot League while the Mids (14-14, 7-6) are tied for fifth.  This will mark the 39th meeting between the two teams since the series began in 1992.  Navy leads the all-time series 23-15, including a 48-40 victory in Annapolis earlier this season.  The Raiders however, hold a 10-7 advantage when playing at home.

 

Colgate is looking to end a four-game losing streak after falling to Holy Cross, 75-57 on Wednesday.  The Raiders last win came against Lafayette on Feb. 11.  Colgate is led in scoring by sophomore Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) who is averaging 11.2 points per in 18 games this season.  Classmate Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) is second in scoring averaging 9.7 points per outing.  Candice Green (East Brunswick, N.J.) and Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) led the Raiders in scoring in their last meeting against Navy, each posting eight points.  Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds, followed by Gretchen Polinski (Mansfield, Ohio) with nine.

 

Navy enters the game after ending a two-game losing streak by defeating top-ranked American, 59-56 on Wednesday.  Sophomore Cassie Consedine leads the Mids, averaging 11.3 points per game and 7.5 rebounds.  Angela Myers and Whitney Davidson each have averaged 10.2 points per outing, while Myers is pulling down 7.4 boards per game.  Myers led Navy in their last meeting against Colgate, scoring a game-high 16 points, while Kalen Kropa added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.  

The game will be a part of Youth Day with free admission to any youth in 8th grade or under.  The first 100 fans under the age of 12 will also be given a coupon good for a free basketball at the end of the game.
