Prockow Assists on Two Goals in 3-3 Tie With Brown

Nick Prockow assisted on two goals versus Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I.  (2/27/09)  – Freshman Nick Prockow (Montreal, Que.) posted a career-high two points as Colgate and Brown battled to a 3-3 overtime tie, Friday evening in ECAC men's hockey action at Meehan Auditorium.

The overtime appearance was the Raiders' 15th of the year moving them one away from tying the national single season mark of 16 set last year by Minnesota. It also marked Colgate's 21st game determined by one goal or less this season.

The Raiders were 4:18 away from winning the game in regulation. At 15:22, Jason Fredricks (Eagle River, Wisc.) blasted home his fifth goal of the year from out top after Prockow found the senior all alone. Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) was credited with an assist as well.

However, Brown erased the deficit 55 seconds later on a goal by Jarred Smith at 16:17.

Colgate came out charged at the start of the game and fired pucks on Bears' goalie Mike Clemente right from the start, collecting 19 shots in the opening period. The Raiders solved the freshman netminder at 7:30 of the first as Tom Riley (Ottawa, Ont.) beat Clemente from inside the left circle – glove side for his third of the year.  Prockow and Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) each collected assists on the opening score.

The Raiders didn't let up and lit the lamp for the second time of the period, 70 seconds later at 8:40 as Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas) found the net for the 13th time this season. The freshman collected a rebounded shot from a Mark Anderson (Hastings, Neb.) blast and beat Clemente from the left side to give Colgate a 2-0 advantage. That was the way the period ended as both teams headed into intermission.

The second period started with a few early scoring chances by Colgate in the opening 30 seconds. However, it was the Bears who scored first as Matt Vokes went to his back hand and  beat Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) on a mini breakaway 40 seconds into the period for his 11th goal of the year. After failing on a power play opportunity, Brown knotted the game at 2-2 as Eric Slais found the back of the net for the fourth time this season off a rebound in front at 15:49.

Colgate outshot the Bears 41-28 on the evening. Clemente tallied 38 saves in the draw, while Long turned aside 25 shots. Both teams failed to convert on man advantages as the Bears went scoreless in three tries. Colgate was zero of two on its power play attempts.

The Raiders, 10-16-7 overall, will play their final regular-season game of the year, Sunday afternoon as they travel to take on 11th-ranked Yale. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Ingalls Rink. The game will be aired over ESPNU.
