McIntyre and Long Pace Colgate to Upset of #19 Dartmouth

Charles Long posted 28 saves to gain his second career shutout

HANOVER, N.H. – David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) netted the game's lone goal and Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) made it stand up between the cage as visiting Colgate upset 19th-ranked Dartmouth 1-0, Saturday evening at Thompson Arena in an ECAC Hockey men's hockey match-up.

Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) sprung McIntyre loose on a breakaway with an outlet pass from the defensive zone.  The junior collected the pass between the blue and red lines of the offensive zone; cruised in and the beat Jody O'Neill top shelf at 6:19 of the third for his 17th goal of the year.  With the goal, McIntyre extended his goal scoring streak to four games.  Joe DeBello (Oswego, Ill.) was also credited with an assist on the goal, which is his first point of the campaign.

Long stopped all 28 Dartmouth shots thrown his way, including having to make 14 in the final period en route to capturing his second career shutout.  The junior blanked Quinnipiac 1-0 on November 7 in Hamden, Conn., with a 19-save performance.

Big Green, who fell to 13-9-3 overall, 10-6-2 in ECAC Hockey play, outshot the Raiders 28-25.  Both teams went scoreless on the power play in four attempts.

The shutout was Colgate's third-ever blanking of Big Green in 82 games.  The previous two shutouts of Dartmouth happened both at Thompson Arena, the last being in a 5-0 victory January 25, 1991.

The victory marks the first time Colgate has upset a ranked team on the road since McIntyre's double overtime goal which gave the Raiders a 3-2 win at then seventh-ranked Clarkson in the deciding game of a quarterfinal match-up at the 2008 ECAC Hockey Tournament.

It also marks the first time Colgate has defeated Dartmouth since November 11, 2005 when the Raiders posted a 3-2 decision over Big Green at Thompson Arena.  Colgate was 0-6-1 in its last seven meetings against Dartmouth, which includes a 1-0 setback in Starr Rink, November 21, 2008.  Also, the Raiders improve to 9-1-1 in their last 11 games played on Valentine's Day.

Colgate, 9-16-5 overall and 4-11-3 in league play, returns to action Friday evening as they host Union at Starr Rink.  The game will start at 7 p.m.
