HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/10/09) - The Colgate women's basketball team will wrap up its three game road stand this Wednesday when they take on Patriot League opponent Lafayette at 7 p.m.
The Raiders (4-19, 0-8 PL) are looking for their first conference win of the season, while the Leopards (8-15, 2-6) are looking to snap a four-game losing streak. Lafayette sits just above Colgate in the league standings, ranked seventh in the Patriot League, while the Raiders stand in eighth place.
This marks the 52nd meeting between the two teams, who last met back on January 14, with the Leopards defeating the Raiders on Cotterell Court, 64-57. Lafayette holds a slight lead in the all-time series, 28-22, including a 14-10 record on their home court. The Leopards won both meetings last year, to snap the Raiders 10 game win streak against Lafayette.
Rookie Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) led the Raiders against Lafayette earlier this season, registering a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, with classmate Kelly Korkowski (Williamsburg, Va.) adding eight points and five boards. Candice Green (East Brunswick, N.J) and junior Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) each contributed seven points in the Raiders loss to the Leopards this year, while Georgia Gier (Mercer Island, Wash.) had five boards.
Oakes currently leads Colgate on the boards averaging 6.4 per outing and is third in scoring posting an average of 9.6 points per game. Sophomore Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) has an average of 10.0 points per game in 23 starts, while classmate Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) is averaging 10.6 points over 13 games.
Lafayette's top scorer LaKeisha Wright, who is averaging 11.6 points per game, scored a game-high 16 points against Colgate earlier this season. Cristin Zavocki and Elizabeth Virgin followed with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Zavocki has an average of 10.6 points per outing while Emily Garner leads the Leopards in rebounding, averaging 6.4 per game.
The Raiders will be back on Cotterell Court this Saturday, when they host American for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “Pink Zone” game.
