HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/21/09) - The Colgate women's basketball team is off to a 4-0 start for the first time in program history after defeating Wagner, 72-59, Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court. The Raiders improve to 4-0 while the Seahawks drop to 0-3 this season.

Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) led Colgate on the boards pulling down eight rebounds.
Wagner jumped out to an early lead, 7-1, aided by five points from Marie- Laurence Archambault, just two minutes into the game. Colgate then held the Seahawks to just three points over the next five minutes as they fought back to gain a four point lead, 15-11 with just over 13 minutes left in the half.
The two teams traded baskets for almost the rest of the first half before Colgate was able to gain their largest lead of the half, 36-30, in the final seconds. Kozlowski forced a turnover and passed the ball off to Lynch who put in a lay-up on the fast-break, sending the Raiders into the half-time break with a six point advantage.
Colgate shot 41.9 percent from the field and went 5-10 from behind the arc during the first half. Wagner shot just 20 percent from three-point range, but 42.3 from the floor. The teams were tied in rebounds at 17.
The Raiders dominated the second half of the game, never losing their lead and only once let the Seahawks get within one point. Colgate had 11 points off turnovers in the second half. Their largest lead of the game, 15 points, came in the final minute of play, just before earning the 72-59 victory.
Colgate finished the game shooting 43.1 percent (25-58) from the floor and 55.6 percent (10-18) from three-point range. The Seahawks also shot 43.1 percent (22-51) but were just 3-13 (23.1 percent) from behind the arc. The Raiders held the advantage on the boards leading in rebounds 37-31.
The Raiders will be back in action this Tuesday, Nov. 24 as they take to the road for the first time this season. Colgate will face Mt. St. Mary's at 7 p.m. in Emmitsburg, Md.
